"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Didn't realize how much I missed crits

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I've been pretty much only been doing road races so far this year and made some time tonight to do a local training crit. Boy am I happy I did because I had a total blast. I even had the pleasure of being that guy to blast off the front on the first lap to see if anyone would chase. They all did and the pace stayed high for the rest of the race :P

Good to hear! I'm doing my first crit in 12 years tonight... also thinking about the same start :D
So how'd it play out (not talking just final placing).
Ended up being a pretty fun race but interesting b/c they let the lapped juniors stay in the race until the end. I was thinking they'd pull them a couple laps from the end. I felt good for most of the race so attacked and ended up trying 3 breakaways and none were successful. I only had one teammate with me on the lead lap and we ended up not being able to get anything going, but it was good to know that there was always a wheel to tuck in on when I needed it.
There was one crash when some dude came cooking into a corner and hit the brakes, but otherwise all were really alert and holding their lines. Unfortunately, I had nothing for the sprint b/c I had spent everything trying those breakaways and just held on to finish just outside of the top 10. I'd highly recommend Wompatuk to any New Englanders that are looking for a fast, fun crit.
With that, good luck tonight, rockets
