General Cycling Discussion - DIY Front wheel hitch for bed of pickup?

Anyone have tips on how to make a front wheel hitch for the bed of a pickup? I'm using the Delta Stableloader rack and can purchase the front wheel hitches for it, but thought I might be able to make something cheaper.

Would it be possible to make some sort of clip that would attach the front wheel to the back wheel? Any input is appreciated! Thanks!

I don't bother.

I have a cable with two keyed alike padlocks that extends from one side of my truck bed to the other. I run the cable through the back wheel and frame of the bike, then place my front wheel vertically next to the bike and run the cable through that too.

If I'm not planning any stops I usually just lay the front wheel flat in the bed of the truck and don't bother to lock anything.

I'm with Retrogrouch. My cable has an eye on each end, and I stick one through a tiedown loop on one side of the bed, stick the other end through that eye, pull it up snug, run it through the frame and wheel (a fork-mount holder bolted to a board keeps the frame vertical) and lock it to the tiedown on the other side.
My tiedowns are closed loops, not hooks, which makes the whole thing feasible.

I have seen the front clamp for about 10-15 $. Bolt it on a home made piece of steel or lumber and you'll be OK.
