Hello~~ I fell into your forum and can't get out~~ Too GOOD!!
Am new to biking, (except for the Red Schwinn Santa provided years ago, got recycled each Christmas, I never knew)
Formal introduction came when a friend from the 5 x 10 mile Island of Jersey did the Southern Index and landed here~~ got my Bike (at near gunpoint, was not smart at the time) and as soon as I could walk upright again, it has been a clear of case of Pure Love~~ Is now a *green* Schwinn Sierra~~
Turned 53 on the 19th, few days ago~~ lifted my chin, squared my shoulders and embarked on my first trail experience~~ in total awe that I did the whole thing first try~~ not even a twinge the next day~~even though we are talking only 32 miles of flat and level to you old timers~~ it was the highlight of my life and a huge step from my daily 7 mile average~~Guess I underestimated how much I *could* do~~ :D
Am now, of course, looking for more highlights~~ or more of the same but faster~~
Having said all of that, I am happy to have found you~~hope to learn and grow smarter~

Welcome...

To quote Berthold Brecht [and, really, who doesn't from time to time?] I'm a stranger here myself... or I was...

In any event, you're learning one of the fundamental truths of cycling -- as opposed to bike riding -- it's one of the few addictions that's good for you. You take one trail, and then you have to take another, and another and... you get the picture...

I had dinner with some of my cycling buddies after watching a local criterium last night. We had a good laugh over the thought that some people think 25 km [@18 miles] is a LONG ride. Yet, there was a time for all of us when it was.

My your wheels always be true and may you be followed by the yellow Mavic car down the road of life.

Welcome, welcome, welcome!

Glad that you are biking and posting! You are in for a lot of fun! 32 miles does not sound like too bad a start to me! You will be amazed at how the benchmarks you set will quickly fade into history as you keep getting better and better! I am 52 years old, and after a 36 year break from riding bikes, I got started again just last March! And I am having a blast!

If you ever have any questions, be sure and post them here...this a really a helpful bunch of folks!

Happy belated birthday. :bday:

You're not the oldest person here. I'm 56 and there are a few others older. ;) But in bicycling age doesn't count!
There is a small group of Georgians. Three of us (including myself) in the Atlanta area and three in the Augusta area.

Keep us updated on your progress and your adventures.
