We have a loop south of LSU designated as bicycle friendly training grounds where lots of people ride from rec riders to training races. It runs along the Mississippi River and is a very rural area-two lane road with little traffic. A large multi-national company is trying to put in a $200+ Milliion casino resort right in the middle of it. Needless to say many are opposed to the idea. It goes to a vote in October where we might be able to defeat it.
My concern is that they:
A. will move down the road to the next {county** and will still destroy the training grounds and
B. will be the first of many to try and develop this area so it's just a matter of time.
This is one of the few places we have to ourselves without driving 30-60 miles out of town.
Any ideas on how to conserve the area more permanently?
