Can anyone believe this? I've called 3 LBS and that's what they all say. Did I also mention there's also a waiting list?

On a side note, would LBS go coo coo if I backed out of an order I placed which has not arrived yet? They have my $500 deposit. I ordered the bike not having seen the Blur yet and now I'm having second thoughts.

Why not get the Intense Spyder then. it's a better engineered bike IMO

I know there are 2 in a local shop here. Well there were 2, I know there is at least one left because I saw it today. I have heard people were having a hard time getting their hands on them in other places.

I know of a store that has at least 10 frames hanging on the wall. Stan's Bicycle in Cupertino, CA. Call em up and maybe they'll ship you a frame.

This will sound stupid, but I really don't like the V bend of the top tube. There's no V bend for small and medium size Blurs.

If you mean the angled top tube, thats only to give you more "don't crush the coin bag" clearance on the large and XL frames. You just don't like the look of the angled one?

I'm partial to the Blur over the Spider. Of the two I rode the Blur seemed to handle better in general.

When I ordered mine, the lbs stated 8 weeks for delivery. It's been over 4 weeks now. I can't wait!!!! :D

Family cycle center in Capitolea has a bunch (20+) Blur frames in stock. Call 'em up and chat with them. I know they'll ship.

As for a Spyder being engineered better than a Blur, I offer the following opinion:

They're practically the same bike. Same suspension architecture. Sealed bearings at all pivots. The Blur gets longer travel so it sets up as more of a "trail bike". The Spyder is tweaked to be happiest with a 3" travel front end, making more of a race/xc/race (did we mention race?) bike.

Last thought, re: bent top tube:

go to the santa cruz website then go to dealers, start calling all the dealers in your area and see if they have any in stock. i called the shops in my immediate area and found 2 framesets in my size. i ended up driving 2 hours to find the particular color i wanted

There's a sporting goods store here that sells Santa Cruz frames, with a very large selection to boot. Surprising, actually, since the only other two LBS's I know that carry Santa Cruz bikes are all "made to order," like Harleys.

The shops with Blurs are the ones that ordered them months ago. There is a 4 month wait from Santa Cruz for new orders. I guess the gang at Kinesis are welding as fast as they can...plus, it can't hurt too much for the "Miata Syndrome" effect to take place at dealerships.

My buddy said he saw one for sale at a bike shop in Half Moon Bay. It's 30 minutes north of Santa Cruz. Don't know if that would have anything to do with it. They had about 5 hecklers too.

Here's the latest scoop. After going through the list of CA dealers, I was surprised to find more availability with the less known/smaller bike shops.

I actually did find a few LBSs with multiple frames in stock but I didn't get it from them. I ended up purchasing from ColoradoCyclist and saved on paying over $120 in taxes. Shipping was only $21.

ColoradeCyclist even offered me the Fox Float AVA w/Lockout or the 5th Element rear shock at no additional cost. The LBSs were charging more for those options.

One thing I didn't like about what the LBSs were doing is that they were totally hyping things up. They were saying that if I didn't jump on their availablility, it'd be gone immediately and if I didn't want it, they'd have someone else waiting for it.

Here's what my frame will look like.

very nice! If I was building my bike up I'd do the same thing.

But they probably weren't lying...

Nice ride.
