Hey everyone,
Now, I'm actually trying to get back in to the swing of things for the summer baseball season. I've always been a star 1st baseman, but I took the spring season off this year and am looking to get back in to it. I still have it in me, but I want to get some nice muscle tonage in my arms (my legs are great of course because of bicycling) and just do a lot of training to help me continue to be the player I've been in the past.
I have a home gym that relies on bodyweight, not actual weights that I can use that has a fake bench-press substitute, arm pulldowns, leg-curls and things like that. I can set it to a percent of my body weight, and since I'm right around 100 pounds, what percent (in increments of 10) do you think I should put it in?
I also have a hit-a-way which is a hitting helper that attaches to a tree or a pole. I've already put it on a tree and have been taking some practice hacks quite often with my drop 9 (drop is the ratio of length (in inches) to weight (in ounces); for example, a drop 9 is 31 in/22 oz) and just ordered a drop 3 bat which is regulation High School size that I want to use for the hit-a-way and for general training purposes. Are there any other ways I could use this bat for my benefit?
I could also use an ab-roller that I have though my abs really don't play a role in baseball performance. Do you think I should use that to help me get in condition?
Anyways, that's basically it. I'm also open to dieting suggestions though I will probably not change my diet that much so I would prefer training drills and exercises that many of you may know. I know it isn't about training and nutrition for bicycling, but it's still about training and nutrition so i figured it would still be ok in here. If it's not, just let me know.
I'm very open to training, conditioning, and dieting tips that any of you may have for me for the coming baseball season. They'd be greatly appreciated!
Shane
P.S. The summer and fall leagues I'm in are Babe Ruth and during the spring I'm going to play High School ball and once that season is over I'm in another Babe Ruth league if that means anything or matters at all to any of you.
