Somehow I have found myself with two sets of cranks. Having never used either, I was hoping for some input. One set is SRAM rival in 172.5 the others are Ritchey pro cross in 175. I really think that qualitywise they are probably about the same. Does anyone have any other input?

So use the one that's closer in size to a crank you already like and ebay the other.

That is typically what I would do, use the 172.5. However, a friend of mine told me that I might like the extra torque from slightly longer cranks in cross.

Yes, but you might not like the extra hitting the dirt with your pedals on off camber sections with the longer cranks.

Ah, but that extra torque is good and if he's got a highish bottom bracket like my old Conquest pedal strikes just isn't an issue. Mostly you run at lower cadence off road than on. Easier on the butt and easier to ride smoothly over rough terrain.

use the one with the crank length you prefer. or if you have time, ride one for a few weeks, then swap them out to the other and ride that (making obvious saddle adjustments for the crank length).

Choose the one you like better.
