"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - The Bike Goes to DC 18-20 May - Any Races?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I'm going to be driving up to D.C. to attend my sister's graduation on the 18th, and spending the weekend there.

I'm extremely proud of her, and all that good stuff...but this is a bike forum.

I'll be in the midst of my second "beat myself to a pulp week" and would like to get a race in if possible.

Locals, recommendations?

Where's she graduating from? I'll be saying goodbye to George Washington University. There's not much in terms of races (they've all filled) but there are a lot of good club rides. I'm too drunk to remember right now but I'm sure smeone will fill int

Same deal with her.

Full races are weak-sauce :(

Looks like just one race in the DC area that weekend.

if you're around at noon on the 18th, there's a fast ride at hains point (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hains_Point) that i sometimes go to. and get dropped from. just ride counter-clockwise till you see them and hop on.

The race orig. scheduled for 5/19 was cancelled (it was kind of far from DC anyway), and the race that is scheduled for 5/20 is about a 2 hr. drive from DC in Leonardtown, MD. Good race substitutes at the above link. Do the 7:00 a.m. ride and you'll probably even get you to the graduation ceremony on time. I'll probably be at the 7:00 a.m. that day, but ride from home and meet the ride midway through as opposed to at the start point. PM me if you would like more info.

Snuff, I sent you a PM as I'll actually be up there that weekend for my sister's graduation as well and will be looking to hurt myself anytime I can get away from the familial obligations.

Snuff--

Cool to hear that you're headed this way! Leonardtown is a pretty long haul from DC so you might not want to do that... If you want a good thrashing check out the 7AM Saturday ride that MDCatV alluded to, or the 8:30 AM Sunday ride from the Bicycle Place in Silver Spring, MD. Both will get the job done.

Unfortunately, I'm going to a wedding and won't be in town that weekend. Come back again and I'll buy you a beer.
