Advocacy & Safety - Road Rules?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Wasnt sure where i should post this question so ill try here. i just recently started to get back into biking, commuting to work and back and a few other small runs when i get a chance. on my commute i travel along a highway for about 2 1/2 to 3 miles. another poster on these forums made me think that i really dont know the bicycle rules of the road. when i was little i was told to "stay out of the street" when i got old enough to go places i was told to "watch out for traffic" ive learned from reading here to go with traffic, before i always went against so i could see what was coming at me. but i havent seen any place that has a set of guide lines for biking safely with traffic? could someone send me in the right direction for a list of some sort
