I really shouldn't be allowed to start threads, but....

I was reading Wikipedia about the etymology of the word f++k, and came across a tidbit.
(it is under the 'early usage" portion of the article)

The Kestrel (a type of bird) was referred to as a "windf++ker" around the 1600's.

I thought this was great. Sort of like the "sofaking" bikes that were made a few years back.

Kestrel had to know about this.

Does anyone know if kestrel makes a fixed gear?;)

Very interesting factoid. They don't make a single, that's for sure. They were the first GOOD one-piece carbon fiber bike. Few write of them here,Kish won the RAAM on an old one, twice I think. The prices are reduced all around, especially the Talon model. I rode my friends "imediate power delivery" characterizes it.

I feel like a tool for posting on my own thread, but here is the email.

Hi William,
Very interesting thread... Kestrel Bicycles indeed took its name from
the falcon, American Kestrel, which is a frequently seen inhabitant of
our Nor-Cal/Central Coast area in the fall and winter months. It seemed
to fit the company and its products well - small, light, agile, quick,
sleek, aggressive. I can't say that at the time anyone here knew about
that particular "historical" name you reference - but it does seem
rather fitting to our aero bike designs over the years, doesn't it!

Of course, we can't really make use of that name, but our engr. dept.
may have found a new code name for our next aerobike project... ;)

And btw, I don't think youcanhavetoomanybikes.
Best,
Preston
