VERY sweet ride, be sure to give a full ride report once it's built. My dad is looking at buying one in that same color and has some Q's on the climbing behavior.

XTR is just a component group like XT, LX, Deore, etc. that is made by Shimano. SRAM organizes their lines by number (5.0, 7.0, 9.0, etc.). I read/heard somewhere that the "R" stood for Racing, but this could just be someone else's speculation as to what it means. XTR is about as nice as it gets. You want XTR -most of the time.

XTR = XT Racing
XT = original Mountain groupset by Shimano.
I'll dig out an article on the history of Shimano in one of my Dutch Biking mags. Will post later.
Send that piece of junk to me.. I'll take it off your hands for you!

Did you pay MSRP for the frame?

Rockstar, are you going with the full XTR tubeless wheels or just the hubs?

Could be wrong, but I thought that I had seens pics of the 2003 XTR hubs that showed the spoke nipples attached at the hub flange. Wouldn't the 2003 XTR rims be necessary to run these hubs on a wheelset? ....Or I could be completely wrong and just misunderstood what I was looking at. Can anyone clarify this??

damn, you know i never checks the mounting system for the xtr disc rotor, they only mount on the new xtr hubs which are splined, i thought they mounted with the 6 hole mounting system like all the rest. i was planning on getting some chris king hubs, and run a mavic rim. i guess i've got some decisions to make

The 03 xtr looks a bit better than other shi!mano hubs of past. 36 holes of engagement and a much bigger axle...it even peaks my interest...
A hint...DT is making shi!tmano compatible hubs for xtr and saint I believe. :)

Come to think of it. I might be wrong about the xtr hub...I would think there would be more engagement but I am not 100% sure about the bigger axle...that would weight to much for the market xtr is built for..

You can run a ISO standard 6 bolt hub and use the XT rotors in lieu of the splined!
