Commuting - Old spokes

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
There's an old roadie commuter that has two broken spokes and a heavily bent rim. A person wants to replace the broken spokes with some other rusty used ones from a wheel that's been lying around for God know how long and true the wheel with them. Now, in my opinion, that's practically suicide. Too bad the person doesn't believe me that it's quite unsafe. Is it possible to presuade them on not reusing old spokes? Or am I wrong and it's safe?
Well, I don't think it is "suicidal" to use old spokes, but it will probably result in replacing them again sooner than would be if new spokes were used.
If the guy has some spare old spokes and doesn't mind replacing them when they break, I don't see the big deal.
Ya, ya, you can argue that IF he puts old spokes on the front wheel and IF a bunch of spokes all broke at the same time when he was going down a hill, then it could be TERRIBLE. Besides that- big deal.
