Hey,
I've just started into dirt jumping. i bought a used Kona Scrap, and within a few days my legs look as if I've been repeatedly attacked by wolves. I came to the conclusion that in order to continue living as a bipedal, I should invest in some shin pads. I'm having some trouble finding them in local bike shops, but the two models I have come across are the most basic (cheap) fox pads, and some higher end roach pads. I'm leaning towards the roach pads but I would really like to here some recommendations from others who know what they're talking about.

I'm not limited two those two pads, and if you know of any others that would be a match for a dirt jumper, please let me know.

Also, if anyone has a used pair of shin pads that they want to unload I'm interested.

Thanks.

You may be able to get an answer in the Mountain Biking or BMX sections.

It helps to post the question in the relevant forum. Or try forums.mtbr.com- this question comes up once a week there.

Raceface (same as Roach), Fox and 661 pads are generally well-regarded. The Raceface pads I have are great, but the straps are a bit weak and may need reattaching.

I do Bike-Trials, and I wear a pair of $10 soccer shin pads from Target.
They work great.
