Just curious. How many of you have a tatoo? How old were you when you got it? Anything cycling related? Is 60 too old to get one, it's three years away but I was thinking I might like one for my 60th.

Maybe something on the back of your neck in small print like:

"If you can read this you're too damn close"

You're never too old for body art.

I have a triskel, an Irish symbol that represents the 3 stages of womanhood: maid, mother and crone (meaning a mature, wish woman, like your favorite grandmother). I got it 4 years ago, on the small of my back. I was two years away from qualifying for this forum then. I'll get another one when I find design I like well enough to wear forever.

If you want one, get one!

Got one for my 21st birthday... it's a "one-off" of a small blue spider on my upper arm.

Eagle on right arm...

Got it in Los Angeles while I was waiting for a bus while I was in the Marines.

Ironically, I now live in an area where one of the major teams followed by the locals is the Philadelphia Eagles, and I live on Eagle Court... And someone in the C&V forum is possibly selling a Coventry Eagle that sounds interesting to me.

I never really thought about it, but I like Eagles. :D

I've got a tatoo on my bottom lip. About thirty years ago, when I first started learning drafting, I was using a very thin rapidograph pen. Being very thin, the ink dried very quickly and the nibs blocked. The trick was to give the nib a lick and then a shake. Well, I jabbed my bottom lip didn't I and have had a small dot on my bottom lip ever since :D

Never quite understood the concept of paying someone to inflict pain on me. Each to his own, I guess.

I do, but this isn't a dentistry thread.

After the removals of warts, moles, sun splotches, and cysts I'm afraid my body piercing budget is pretty well shot.

Just seeing myself nekkid in good light doesn't inspire any desire to add decorations.

Now, if they come up with a full-body tattoo of a younger, slimmer man I might reconsider.;)

1) I'm not into pain.
2) I can't think of any design that I wouldn't grow tired of and come to regret having later.

Jimmy Buffet once described a tattoo as a "...permanent reminder of a temporary feeling..." (Apologies if I've misquoted.)

I was expecting alot more this considering the age group. I figured there would be alot of Viet Nam era vets here, who are normally more prone to tatoos. Unfortunately, or fortunately, I guess I never got quite drunk enough during my Navy stint.

It's customary for first time ironman finishers to have the date and time of their competition tattoo'd on their calf. That is one time I would voluntarily get a tattoo.

I have a few more or less permanent marks on the back of my right calf from biffing a few times on a mountain bike. I'm pretty proud of them.

Got a mark on my left hand where I got hold of 110 electricity once ...another mark where I let the popcorn kettle (long time ago) get too close to my left thumb. And several places on my arms where I have had "sun-spots" removed................do those count....I know, they don't but it is something I can add to this thread.........and say no tatoos and don't have the cravings for any........peace

I just heard the term "tramp stamp" the other day and was told it referred to the tattoos that some women get in the lower back area just above the **** crack. I must admit that I did smile a little when I heard that. :D

Ditto...I've done a few tri's but nothing even close to IM. But, if I ever do, I may have to get drunk and get a tat for that. :D

Actually, I'm training for IM right now. A couple of years back, I saw the Ironman TV coverage, and one of the competitors they focused on was a guy who was 83 years old! He was trying to become the oldest finisher in under the 12 hour time limit...and he did.

So, now my goal is to beat that guy's record. Shouldn't be a problem...I've got 29 years to train up for it! :D

On a couple I've seen, the money would have been better spent fixing some of the hail damage 18" lower...

RVN 69-70, I heard of a tatooted 'madame' that for 100p (about $1) would let you look at it. It was on inner thigh and said 'pay as you enter'...........

I think WWII vets were the cats meow, I never had the desire. Scars look meaner except if they are emotional (as most of of VV's have).

The smartest day of my first 25 years was the day I didn't get a Playboy bunny tattooed on my butt in the Army. A bunch of us drank a bunch of beer in jump school at Ft. Benning, then somebody decided we should all go into town and get the same tattoo. Playboy wasn't a cliche yet, and the little bunny logo got the vote. Everybody but me, five other guys, got it done and I backed out.
I took a lot of crap for it at the time, but I went to a reunion of Special Forces medics last year and four of the five guys were there. Two had had the tatts removed and the other two said they wished they'd never gotten them.
True, a 60-year-old guy doesn't have as much future to look forward to as I did in 1966, but you've got SOME. A tattoo at our age shrieks, "I'm no smarter than a 20-year-old"

Do I understand it correctly?

You shave it off and then tattoo it on?

Tom Bombadil

He may shave it off on some places, and want it tattoo'ed back on in others.

Small Wrestling mat circle on my back, so would be hidden under my singlet straps. Had it done a million years ago. The straps on bib shorts now also cover it.

I was successfully able to avoid the temptation when I was on P.I., and in San Diego, and on Okinawa, and in Hong Kong, and plenty drunk enough at the times too. Just lucky I guess.

I have an eagle clutching a red white and blue banner on my right upper arm. I got it when I was about 40 and I'm 53 now. I don't regret it I think it looks pretty good and I wasn't drunk when I got it. I've thought about getting another one but can't think what I would like except perhaps a cross.

Most people our age don't have them. C,mon we rember the days when bikers and sailors had them. In 1980 a boy a few years younger than I got one, I didn't understand wh,at the the time it seemed very un-cool, I felt sorry for him. Individuals under the age of 45 mostly,as well as persons residing south of the Mason-Dixon Line ,any age; exotic dancers, any age and others not incotrol of their faculties at some point, drunk have them too. I'm sure I left some out.

HHHMMMM what about someone that decided that they just wanted one for no particular reason that lives in the Pacific Northwest that works steadily and isn't a doper or biker or redneck loves to bicycle and doesn't cheat on his taxes lets see have I left out anything? Sounds like Old and New likes to generalize and label people because he doesn't like tatoos? What a bout a gay african american asian transgendered cat lover right wing evangelical?

I wasn't aware of this custom. I have a friend who did the Ironman for his 50th birthday. I'll have to check this out next time I see him. I just hope he doesn't notice me staring at his calves:)
