Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. The squeaking brakes could be the result of a specific rubber brakepad compound setting a certain vibrational frequency.

The chromed steel rims on my Peugeot + Kool Stop pads = the most obnoxious squealing brakes ever.

People who have squeaky chains through lack of lubrication annoy me greatly.

I hear Jsharr squeak when Splody squeezes him with Kool Stops.
I thing lots of stuff... probably more things than I need.
I think, however, that in asking the question (and making that typo) you are the ultimate Fred.

squealing disc brakes....an evil I live with.
On the other hand the "clikc lcikc clikc click click" of a poorly tuned drivetrain trying to shift really gets to me....please, for the love of the cycling gods, take care of your freaking cables.

the bike i bult up before the summer had a wicked squeaky front brake. at first I used as a warning sign for people walking in front of me. then it got really annoying and i felt like a tool so i made the squeak go away.

eh...everyone has their beefs. I guess so many people destroy drive trains here most of us have settled with "clikclcikclikc"...that means it is only 20% dead and still has a few more crashes to go. :)
i thing you got some splaining to do Lucy.

I am so cool that even Kool Stop pads cannot stop me. I never squeak. I face fear with dignity.

My brakes got wet right after they were tightened... screech city! I was very embarassed. But everyone got out of my way!
The squeak is gone now :) But I have a clickety chain that I have to fix tonight.

True, but this is XC land (AKA a BCer's equal to watching corn grow), where it's really hard to damage a drivetrain THAT bad :)

I would have thought trouser clips would be more freddy. Squaking brakes are for part timers.

Simple solution, just oil up the rims...no more squeeking.
