"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - Anyone else apply for the Discovery TdF Show?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Discovery HD Theater has been advertising for an upcoming show in which they are going to send two lucky candidates to France to ride several stages of the Tour de France. Part of the application process was to submit a three minute video telling about yourself.

OK, I'll admit it... I sent in an application and a video. It sounds like it would be fun and riding the stages of the Tour would be a memory to last a lifetime.

I uploaded my video to YouTube but I haven't posted the link here on BF because I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I can handle the, um, scrutiny that something like that would garner around here.

I thought about it. Then racing season began, and it took the back burner.

I also remember posting my sprint video and being worked over by the usual suspects.

Pearls before swine.

You would do better to wear a short pink skirt and nothing else while bending over in a maximum security prison shower room than to post that link on BF. Unfortunately, now that people know it is SOMEWHERE on youtube, it will only be a matter of time before someone OTHER THAN YOU posts the link. Good luck all the same!

I almost feel bad for even thinking I could submit a video now. I HATE guilt trips!

With his tale of overcoming adversity, he'll not only win the competition, he'll goon to win the Tour one day, a year or two after Saul Raisin wins one.

C'mon, now. All you gotta do is fake a coma and a recovery. "And now, after coming back from my ordeal, with my love of cycling, I cannot be stopped. Watch me sprint to 40mph, b******!"

I'm not exactly what one would call a "recreational cyclist".

Your sprint video kicked ass and many people, myself included, said so.

OP: video. Now.

I know you're not. Unless pain is recreation. This competition is similar to the "Race to Replace" thing last year, right? I mean, you don't actually get to race in the TdF, but you get to work with the team, train in Europe, then train on your own. And then you ride some of the stages. That would be worth it, I think. I think you'd crush it. What's wrong with that?

I thought they were looking for up and coming racers. That's all.

That's very well done and compelling. Maybe a little on the sappy side for my tastes but wow that guy has a cool story to tell. I've got no chance against that dude.

Check out the pictures on the bottom of the page. Why would Discovery have a shot of Tyler Hamilton and his huge ears on it's site?

Hey guys- The I am the poster of the video you guys are talking about. I'm thrilled that it has brought about so much talk... I know you guys have mixed reactions about how I chose to put my story out there, but it's the absolute truth. My recovery has really only been fueled by riding the bike, and you bet I'd love to get out there and ride in France. But that's enough about me... I wish ALL of you the best of luck.

+1

but go back, and insert a scan of the 'before' (pre-cycling zimbo) shot. researchers and producers love that stuff.

Both were good.

+1 on blowing up the fat picture.

I thought the same thing about bibs the first time I saw them. :)

The partially supportive wife scene is great too. I bet she spends as much scrapbooking as you do on cycling; somehow that industry managed to make junk cost a fortune.

In high school one of the funniest guys went by Zimmerman, good memories.

even if disco claims rights, the creator of the vis also has intellectual property of the videos, and is free to do what they will with them.
