- yep, but this smoke is from fires in Georgia, more than 200 miles AWAY!

- the weather fronts are concentrating a stream of low-level smoke directly over the county...

- and it's getting worse by the minute... my clothes stink and there's a bad taste in my mouth just from being outside in the two minutes to get the above snaps... it's unbelievable! never experienced anything like this before...

In Dallas, we get smoke from wild fires in Mexico.

Hey! Looks like China! ;)

Edit: I said that sort of jokingly, but then I found this picture from my old commute:

:(

Hope it improves, linux_author! That kind of air is no fun.

Same down here, the whole state must be covered. Hoping for a wind change by riding time otherwise it may be a slow day.

Up in Oroville, Ca they allow people to burn waste, and it causes clouds of smoke in the distance.

Everything south of Macon, Ga looks like that. Here due east of Atlanta we have some blue sky at least, but when I was in south Georgia last week I was astonished with the smog. It was awful.

Yeah, it's freaking horrible out here by the Gandy bridge.

Yeah, it's freaking horrible out here by the Gandy bridge.

- local news media is freaking out... visibility down to less than .25 mile in some spots...

- no relief due to Andrea just sitting and spinning off the east coast... maybe later tomorrow?

- the only good news for outdoor lovers is that the smoke is being touted as having a rating of SPF 1000...

:-)

Here's a map of the current large fires: http://activefiremaps.fs.fed.us/modules/lg_fire/data/lg_fire_nifc_2007-05-11.png

Yeah, but would you ride your bike in it? I’ve been watching out of our office window today and it seems incredibly bad. It looks like visibility is down to about a third of a mile. I think we are going to top our record poor air quality rate from Tuesday. This is all part of an ongoing conspiracy to keep me from bike riding. I went for a ride yesterday evening because I couldn’t stand it anymore. I had already missed cycling earlier in the week due to this mess.

Thing is, my car is my bike, my other car is my other bike, and my other other car is my other other bike :p

How else do you think a 240lb 5-8 fatguy can sprint up to 30mph+....I put down car level mileage on my bikes.

So I make it work out....need is the mother of all invention, and all you need is a filtration mask....that can be made out of water soaked cloth and a retaining strap of some kind (in my case I alligator clip the soaked rag to my helmet straps, covering my mouth and nose).

I rode Wed, it looks worse today. I found that my eyes had the most trouble and my recovery time suffered. If it stays like it is I will probably still go out and do my daily 20mi but at a slower pace.

Catalina is on fire here. They've evacuated all residents. The whole Island looks on fire.

The local fire department came out to the farm last week to check if their pumper truck could make it to the pond. Not just for our property but in case the area goes up in general.

I think they ought to make a law against forest fires.

In a month or so Jersey Pines will look like Fl. It never fails, there is a big fire every year there.
