Finished my second triathlon today, first open water swim one. Got a little lost in the swim but got through it, all the while raining. I get to the bike everything is soaked, shoes and socks included. So I hop on and get going. Come about 4-5 miles in I slow for a turn...but not slow enough. Slid for a good distance. Tore up my hip, sore as anything, Some nice scrapes on my elbow, leg, shoulder. Nice area of road rash on my back. More importantly my bike is kind of ok. The frame looks good as does the fork. My <1month old ultegra spd sl pedals, the right one, is extremly scratched up, but still functional. Rear derailleur took a heavy shot though. For the rest of the bike, another 6-8 miles or so 20k total bike, I could only shift so high before it would start jumping gears by itself. Taking it in to the shop tomorrow hoping theyll get it fixed up. Handlebars took a nasty hit too on the right side, STI shifter is mighty scratched. Now at least I have a crash story to tell!hahaha. Oh yeah, since the bike was so wet what should I do? I came home and wiped the chain and put some lube on it. Anything else? Im just letting it dry right now. I'll probably have the LBS do a tune up so theyll grease everything but if they dont what do I need to do? Thanks

Eeek, sorry to hear about the slide-out :( Keep that road rash dressed with something like Neosporin.

The bearing seals on Ultegra equipment should shrug off incidental wetness from plain old rain. Lubing the chain and wiping it down was a smart move, and in the future you might also put a drop of light lube like TriFlow on the various pivots of the derailleurs and brake calipers.

A tune-up doesn't include regreasing the bearings (that's an "overhaul"). It does include adjusting the bearings, truing the wheels, adjusting the brakes, and adjusting the drivetrain & shifting. There may be an additional labor charge since it sounds like your rear derailleur hanger needs a realignment.

Check your cranks to see if they took any of the impact. A bent crank or pedal spinde can be bad news for your knees.

Wow. Glad you're okay. Were you on aerobars when you crashed? I'm always leery of diving into a hard turn in the aero position. On the other hand, it's a little scary to reposition onto the drops before the turn. (Maybe it's best to just have a straight course ;))

A straight course would be heaven! I had come out of my aero position and was slowing down but apparently didnt slow enough. Thanks for the advice, should I turn my bike upside down without the seat post for any water possibly in there?
