Guys!!! I am cleaning my bike up for tonights ride. I decided to take my chainrings off to make it easier to clean, and guess what?!?!?! The bolt that secures the crank on the chainring side was hardly in!!!! It came out with my fingers!!! I am soooooo glad I decided to take the rings off. No wonder my crank has been creaking so bad, and I thought it was a cracked frame!

I check those two bolts regularly Fubar. Seems like after a while you can always put a little on them. I guess your cranks stayed tight though. You would have noticed that I think. Or you'd have been buying new cranks and/or BB. :(
I am so lucky to have caught it before anything terrible happened. Now I have safe cranks, and a drivetrain so shiny I have to wear shades to look at it!!!

I detect a pattern here: loose headset locknut, loose chainring bolt. Check those fasteners, good buddy! We don't want you running off the trail into a tree. :D

Hmmmm, my cranks were creaking this morning when I stood up and put power on. Looks like I might have to do some inspecting....:eek:
I suggest using blue Loc-tite on the crank fixing bolts and the chainring bolts. These are two things you don't want problems with 10 miles from the car, riding in the woods near sunset.
