Touring - ESGE kickstand question

If it came with one, I lost it. Does anyone know if they have a little rubber bit to put in between the the kickstand mounting plate and the the chainstays? I'd rather save my paint when I can, god knows I've done enough to it over the last year. :) If not, I suppose I'll have to improvise....

Mine did not come with anything like that, but it's a good idea. I used a couple pieces of non-slip shelf/drawer liner that I stole from one of my kitchen drawers (I can do that - I'm a bachelor:)). The drawer liner is nearly the same color as my utility blue LHT, so it is hardly noticable.

They don't come with anything like that. I cut up an old inner tube and used shoe goo to attach it to either side of the kickstand.

That's a great idea!

I also cut up an old inner tube and slipped in in between. I like the shoe-goo idea, didn't consider that!

I can't think of any kickstand that comes with one, the inner tube should work fine, might even help hod the bolt a bit better.

as an aside it's amazing how many people overtighten kickstands mar the paint and even crush the chainstays.

Revive this one with a question.

Is the Esge kickstand compatible with light aluminum frames? I ask as I know that that Civia now lists a single arm kickstand for the Hyland which clamps around the left side external bottom bracket piece rather than clamping to the chain stays as most stands, including the Esge, do.

Of course it will work, I just caution you on over tightening it. I used the double leg kickstand on a five week tour and I had to tighten the kick stand every week or so. At the end of the trip, there was some marking on the paint on the under side of the rear stays and I even used inner tubes to protect them as much as I could.

ThorUSA has a top plate especially for the ESGE stand that holds it in place. Alot of people can't seem to keep it in place with the top plate that it comes with and this top plate solves the problem. I did put some pieces of innertube under the stand to keep from mucking up my frame. It should come with this top plate but it doesn't so you have to buy it seperatly.
