Tandem Cycling - My first tandem (Vintage Schwinn - model?)

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Hi Everyone!
Yesterday I bought my first tandem bike. It is Schwinn and it
looks like a Twinn but it doesn't say the model. It is now at
the bike shop for a tune-up. I paid, including what will cost
me the tune-up, $204.00

It has coaster brakes and front hand breaks. The color is blue
and the seats are new (gel type). It has some rust which I am
going to try to take out with Navy gel. I feel very happy and
can't wait to use it! :)

Sounds like a Schwinn Twinn coaster brake model.

That brings back fond memories to me bacause that was out first tandem too. I won't bother everybody with the long story of that bike unless you PM me.

A long story about a tandem in never boring!

And to the OP, congrats on your new old tandem. Pictures! We need pictures!
Preferably with you and your stoker riding and loving it!

I am sorry than I am unable to load the pictures...:(
I already rode it from the bike shop to our home.
Unfortunately, my stroker cannot participate because of
two bad knees and a torn something.

The ride was cool... like driving a truck.

The bike shop installed on it a new braking stm. for the
hand brakes. So my total cost has gone up to $222.

Retro, yes I am interested in your story. I will pm you.

This thread may be of interest in dating your Schwinn Twinn frame and for other historical reference points:

On the coaster brake hubs--check the tooth count--a 20 or 22 tooth cog makes riding a bit easer than the standard 18.Simple snap ring to replace these cogs.Enjoy the new tandem.

Sweet. Love those bars. I once owned a Schwinn Tandem-- that one had the curved, three bar top tube. Yours looks stonger, because of the mixte design.
