I saw TWO tandems this morning!

Denver, CO
9:45 AM

The first was a younger couple, younger than 40 anyway, on the side of the road with the front wheel off. Maybe a flat? They looked like they were having fun changing the tube, laughing and smiling. It is that kind of day here in Denver.

The second was only 1.5 miles later on my ride to work. An older couple having a bit of a time getting started from a red light. It looked like the captain forgot to downshift before the stop and was trying to get the bike to ove in too high a gear. They did get it moving though! They had the coolest helmets! There were these big yellow 'things' sticking out of the top all around like a porcupine. It was easy to spot them!

The rest of the summer, if you see a random tandem, post it here!
It would be cool to see where the tandems are!

(I'm in such a good mood today!)
:) :) :) :) :D :) :) :)

Saw 2 tandems on our daily morning tandem toot yesterday in Tucson, AZ., but zero on this morning's 20-miler.
Temp going up to 102 today, spring has definitely arrived! Saguaro cactus are now in full bloom! Got to start getting up a couple hours earlier to get in our ride.

My wife and I rode with two other tandem teams this morning. Normally, there are a couple more on our ride.

A bit atypical, but on the 4 Hills century this am in Huntsville, AL there were 4 teams that
I saw in the starting rollout, at least 2 of which did the 86mi segment. There was also
a family pack with hubby and two preteen kids on a triple (convertable to double by removing
the center section) and mummy with the third preteener on a tandem. Don't know how far
they went but somewhere in the 30+ mile range. Would have loved to see their bikes but
they were going the opposite direction at the start and loaded on a trailer later, also going
opposite direction with just a few seconds observation.

We have only seen three or four tandems on the road in Buenos Aires in the two years that we have been riding, besides the rental clunkers at the Rosedal (a city park). Our Trek T100 is so far the best tandem we have seen! (cruisers, home built jobs...). I know there are a few more, including a group that take on non-sighted stokers, but I have yet to run across them. My LBS mechanic used to ride a tripple 20 years ago, he was a competitive cyclist, and so where the other two, they drove a 60 T chainwheel and could sustain 60 k/hr, problem was the tires would eventually heat up to where they might have blown.

We generally see 2 to 4 tandems each day on our weekend rides - typical brands. While waiting at a coffee shop in Los Altos, CA for our group ride to que up, I saw four teams go by and after our ride, there was a Trek parked outside. Tandems are very common in the Burlingame, San Mateo, Palo Alto, Menlo Park, San Jose and Los Altos areas. We ride a couple of times each week after work and rarely see one. However, considering the number of tandems in the area, for the time trial next week which has a tandem division, there are only two teams signed up which includes us. Go figure.

Being Saturday mornin' lots of bikes out today, all riding before the temp hits 100 degrees.
Did see 2 other tandem teams. One C'dale and one Co-Mo + us on our Zona tandem.

Did you get the CoMo?

On Sunday, we saw 10 tandem teams - this is a high water mark for us on a weekend day. We were on road bikes and most of the sitings occurred between San Mateo and Los Altos, CA. Do not know what type of bike...because the people were going the other direction. We had nice weather both days this weekend, however, there was a lot of WIND.

Saturday we headed out to the country and a small town we like to stop in for lunch. There is only one restaurant, one gas station, & no stop lights in Hamilton and it's about 30 miles from our house, About a mile before we got into town we saw a tandem cross our path at the next intersection. We rarely see other tandems on our rides so I pointed it out to my stoker. They were headed in the opposite direction as us so I didn't get a close look. A few minutes later we had a car pass us with a tandem on the roof. This one had mountain bike handle bars but was moving too fast to catch more details. As we rolled up to our lunch stop we spotted tandem #4. It was a recumbent, also sitting on a roof rack. We nodded to the obvious cyclists as we sat down to order. About 5 minutes later a couple came in with cycling helmets on. Then I noticed the intercom system. We finished our lunch at the same time and headed out to talk tandems. This was tandem #5, a beautiful Team-Al. They were from Bay City and camping about 15 miles away.

Just one of those days I guess.:)

We rode the Monticello Century today with another tandem, saw one more doing the century, and one going the opposite way. The first was a Co-Mo, the others -- couldn't tell. Nice to see other tandems doing the ride; makes me hope there will be more the next time.

Saw a grandpa and grandaughter (maybe 9years) on a green TREK tandem today in Littleton about 7:20pm. She looked to be having fun even though it was kinda cool this evening.
It was nice to see a younger one.

Well, we got out of warm (100+ degree) Tucson and are spending our summer in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Weather in Idaho has been a bit crazy! First off, 90+ degrees for a couple days. Then winds . . . 52 mph! Then rain with snow flurries mixed and temps dropping way down to near freezing in the morning! We wanted cooler temps . . . we got 'em!
We are doing a local charity ride (Tour de Cure) on our tandem in 2 weeks and maybe we'll scare up another tandem or so?
Did get in a couple rides so far and spotted deer and elk . . but alas, no tandems (yet!).
Pedal on TWOgether!

Littleton, Saturday 10AM, C470 loop trail.

Saw a tandem this morning on our new loop. We were going slow uphill and they were flying by downhill. Didn't catch the bike but the riders were mid 50s maybe, wearing matching red/white/blue jerseys. They rang their bell and we all exchanged hellos. We were all on the C470 loop, so if it was YOU let me know and we can get together!
