I just bought my first set of clipless pedals Shimano duraace something or another. By the way guy on ebay has them 75 dollars cheaper than performance bike. I am not sure however what would be a good shoe to go with them. I am still pretty new to cycling however i easily am riding 100 miles a week. I want a comfortable shoe but with not having much experience with this stuff would like some advice from my fellow roadies. Thanks in advance.

WHat kind of cleat do the pedals use? That makes a big difference in terms of what kind of shoe you need. Some shoes dont accomadate all cleat/pedal systems.

Well here is a link to the pedals if it will help:

These pedals probably use SPD-R (older DuraAce IIRC) or SPD-SL (new version) cleats. Most road shoes come with tappings for Look cleats and need adapters for the Shimano pedals (shouldn't be a problem getting them, though). Shimano road shoes should come ready to go with these pedals.

You can check the websites for the shoe m/fs for info. If your not confident get to your shoe supplying LBS with the cleats when you try the shoes - they shuld sort you out.

For this I wouldn't recommend buying MO or online for the shoes - your most likely going to find the fit a bit strange - road shoes tend to be quite tight & very stiff in the sole.

I would go with the Carnac shoes. They are pricey, but you can use them with any pedal, as long as you get the right adapter. They also have a large toe box, which will help with comfort.

I have looked at specialized before. They look like a really good value, though I have not actually tried them

Those are the new spd sl pedals, I have the ultegra version and I love them. They use the look cleat pattern, a triangle of of screw holes. Just about any shoe you buy, except maybe Sidi, will work. I have specialized shoes that I think are really good. They have rubber parts on the front and heel to help in walking. Comfortable too.

Sidi road shoes come ready for Look pattern as standard - I wear a pair of Genius 4 which I find very comfortable, also with rubber heel (replaceable).

I agree with pat, though, try several on and get some that fit.

There are lots of Look-compatible road shoes that will work right out of the box. Other questions to ask yourself... what level of performance are you looking for? More money buys lighter shoes, stiffer soles, thinner soles, better adjustment (more straps, micro-ratchet adjustments, etc), different materials (may not be better... depends. Leather is comfortable, but is more susceptable to elements, etc). As has been said already, fit is most important... you need to be fitted by a salesperson that knows how cycling shoes should fit.

The concensus among most of the people I know is that the Sidi Genius 4 is probably the best all-around bang for the buck in a quality shoe. They wide enough for most American feet (they make the "mega" for even wider feet). Fairly lightweight, durable, breath fairly well (not hot). I've had some lower-end shimanos that worked great, too. (Model SH-R095,43 cm, wanna buy 'em real cheap? PM me if you'd like to find out more.) They were a little heavier, thicker soles, only two straps, but fit was good, and they served me well 'til I upgraded.

Hmm size 43 a bit small for me :), but thanks for the offer! I need to go to the LBS soon i guess. Need to get some shoes soon, cause gotta get them broke in for the tour im getting ready for. I can't believe i am actually gonna do this tour thing, 450 miles in 7 days, may not seem like a lot to some people but considering i just got to riding again after almost 10 years of not riding, i think im gonna die :)
