Southern California - My new bike Cervelo Soloist

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Well after much deliberation as to wheter I should buy a Cervelo R3 or a Cervelo Soloist I decided on the latter. I love to climb and the R3 is a great climbing machine BUT...I already have a great climbing machine, the Scott CR1 Team Issue. Another factor helping me with my decision was 2-person RAAM. With only 30 days until the start on June 12th, I thought the demands of the race are a perfect fit for the Soloist.
Gravity and lightweight would only matter at the moment of inertia, accelerating and decelerating and while climbing. Aerodynamics matter all the time. So an aero frame and aero wheels will help save a little bit of energy while being on the road for at least 1,500 (conservative) miles of the required 3,043 miles. So here are the pics and specs:
Dura- Ace Gruppo
FSA SLK Carbon Handlebars (new favorite bar)
Custom wheels Velocity Deep V with Power Tap SL Rear and matching front hub (OCP style)
Fi'zik Airone saddle (experiment)
For RAAM this bike will have Zipp 808 front and 808 Power Tap

VERY nice George, congrats!!!
I had mentioned to Brandy in another tread that I wanted to come and see you to discuss Cervelo. I too am in the same boat, R3 vs. Soloist.
I am leaning towards the Soloist, but will wait for the SL before pulling the trigger.
Enjoy her! I know you will

I rode the SL (and we have plenty in our shop) It is a fantastic bike. But this was a sponsorship deal so I couldn't get the SL. I would have to pay a reduced price but even still the difference wasn't worth it to me.

Moreover, you are bringing multiple bikes, right? Can't you ride the climbing bike (scott) on the hills, and the aero bike (soloist) the rest of the time?
And those 808s are pure sex.

Oh VanceMac....yes I can take mulitple bikes. And I'm torn the Scott to climb, the Soloist for flatter or rolling, the P3 for Kansas like states, and I really really really want to take my fixie.
and the 808s....did I really "need" those for RAAM?
Soloist...P3...fixie!!!!
F*ck get out of my head

You can't make me. :p

Black is beautiful I won't argue that BUT when it comes to rims they fade away on a bike. I HATE black rims on a bike. Case and point Ksyriums ES ($1,100) wheels really nice really trick put them on a bike they look like any other OEM ($200.00) wheel i.e. Shimano R500, Alex Rims, even Mavic's own Equipe and Aksium look like the ES's.
I recently built a bike (Pinarello F4:13) for a guy who wanted Campy Record and Campy Euros wheels. He wanted the black ones when they came in and we put them on the bike "poof" they disappeared.
Silver has bling appeal and I love bling!
You can't make me. :p
why would I want to... you can stay

Looks like someone accomplished his goal of breaking top 30...and then some!!!!!! I'm proud of you, babe!!!!!!:) :) :) :) :)
Hi Vireo,
Very nice! I was very tempted to get one of those but I think I going to get a Serotta Attack instead. BTW, what size frame is that? Looks close to what I ride, but I always find it hard to judge the size of frames with sloping top tubes. Good luck on RAAM.

I so want one of these for myself. I really want to upgrade my wagon this year and have drooled over this bike for the past year. So many cool things about this bike: Aero, still light as heck and being a Canadian bike is a big plus for me!
Viero - Does Nytro still give the 10% discount for SDBC members?

Yes we still have 10% bike, components and accessories.

54 with a 54.5 top tube and 140 head tube.
I could ride a 56 (as you can see by the amount of seatpost showing) but I don't like tall head tubes 56cm has 160 headtube I feel like I am driving a bus

If anyone is interested in a Soloist Team, 58 cm, a guy has one for sale locally here in NH for $1500. It only has 17 miles on it.
PM me if interested.

Thanks for the heads up, but NH isn't exactly local for us.
