Commuting - I think I'm set until winter and finally decided about my night shifts

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

Well, I think I got everything I need for commuting until it gets cold again. I got multiple sets of shorts, bright cool max t-shirts, clear pull over rain coat, head light, flashing tail light, tubes, patch kit, pump, water pack, multi tool, wet grease, dry grease, extra pack that attaches to seat post if needed, and regular water bottle. Of course helmet and gloves from mountain biking.

As for nights, I'm gonna drive. I can't risk being up for 24 hours straight then trying to ride home. With my weird schedule of 2, 12 hour day shifts followed by 2, 12 hour night shifts, most of the day during my first night shift I am awake. After the second day shift I still go to be early, and you can only sleep in so late. I do plan to ride still. I figure I can ride into town to get a newspaper. The round trip is roughly the same distance as my commute. With different roads, it'll be a nice change of pace. If I get to sleep during my first night shift, I'll do the same the next day. Being a paramedic, night shifts can be nothing more than being paid to sleep or I may be busy the whole night. I figure this is the best thing for me and my body. I guess it's time to start saving up for the winter gear now.

Sounds like your well organised, once you've been commuting a while you can re-avalueate what days/nights to ride to work ect.
I first started out just riding on the day shift but have ended up riding in on all the shifts :)
Good luck , you will find that even if you're not keen on the work bit you still look forward the cycling to & from bit ;)

cheers grey.
