We're skating GMR today- last skate before its open to traffic. What's the status of GMR as far as construction equipement, dirt, rocks etc?

It won't be your last chance to skate it. They tore it up again so you may have some issue with debris from the trucks and heavy equipment.

I just got back from doing GMR/GRR to the Ski Lifts with Pico. GMR is good. There's a short stretch (50 meters?) where one lane is closed and you have to ride on hard packed dirt. Other than that, everything is in good shape.

What time were you guys there? I was at the gate at 8:30, and my perpetually late friends arrived at almost 9.

I posted in your birthday thread. I thought that was you that I saw. I waved and tried to yell OC Roadie but I guess you were already out of ear shot.

Were you wearing an SC Velo kit? Lots of people were heading up, while we were coming down.

Actually an Incycle kit today. They look very similar. I was with one other person. It was right around the experimental forest sign and you guys were headed toward Glendora but were actually climbing and we were doing a little descending.

GMR was clean except the 100M section with no pavement. We skootched across the 2 foot wide paved curb no problem.

Baldy scares the snit out of me on skates. I don't use heel brakes often, and mounted up a loaner. With my low cut speed skate based boots, I don't get enough leverage to slow down enough for the turns, so I have to throw huge slides at the entrance of the turn to slow. Its by far the hardest road we attempt. I've done it twice without brakes, but that was just after the resurfacing 2 years ago.

On our first Baldy run, one of our guys failed to check his axles, and he dropped two wheels by the exit of the first turn. Pretty funny watching them roll down the hill. Fortunatly, it was the middle wheels, and not ones on the end. Try that on a bike. ;)

We did several runs down GRR. Top speed in the mid 40's. One run down the frontside, and one down the backside of GMR. What a great spot to skate and bike. GRR was the dirtiest. Backside was clean (Southfork? Is that what its officially called?)
