My bike situation is very fluid.

* commute on extremely modded R20
* Swift self-built is nearing completion
* Light-weight hard-tail MTB w/ XT componentry, thinking about selling it
* just sold Giant CRX2
* eyeing a Moulton
So it looks like I might end up with only small-wheeled bikes.

Complete list on my profile for anyone who cares. Although I end up riding my folders most of the time, I don't think I'd get rid of my Bianchi road bike; it's just a very nice bike to ride. I may give my 16 year old hybrid away to something like a church rummage sale. It's actually in very good condition, but I don't need all these bikes, and no sensible person would pay much for it.

Cannondale Bad Boy Ultra slightly upgraded for comuting (rear rack, fenders, lights, etc...);

Dahon Curve D3 slightly upgraded for performance (clipless pedals, no rear rack, fenders, etc...)

When I put 1000Miles on the Curve I will give myself a gift: Bike Friday Tikit with Rohloff or a Twinky Brompton/Merc (or something equivalent, available in the market by then).

Um probably about two too many folders, but there you go...

- Mezzo d9 (the workhorse)
- Raleigh Stowaway (in lovely rusty green waiting for strip down, paint job and suspension fork to be fitted - note to self, get on with it...)
- 'nother Raleigh 20 in gorgeous metallic fawn and white (waiting for a nice summer's day to ride...)
- Downtube IXFS (languishing in work bike rack but waiting for an excuse to take it for a ride - maybe next week...)

But I do quite fancy one of those nice monocoque Birdys to add to the stable (but only if I can score one on my cycle to work scheme - £1200 is perhaps too much to spend on a fourth reserve bike)

Strange - this thread has been viewed 333 times, yet only 59 have taken the poll. I wonder why so many have looked, but few have contributed to the poll.

Up until having a 32 mile RT commute through the south Bronx, just a folder. I need more speed to get through Mott Haven alive. Still love my folder though. I added an early 80's fuji road/touring bike, SA-WEET!!!!!!!! (Only 150 plus shipping), you can see pics here: http://bikeforums.net/showthread.php?t=284651&highlight=new+bike%2C+new+bike

. . . am I the only nut who names all his bicycles???

I've met others. :)

My own bikes definitely have personalities, but somehow, they have never acquired names. Maybe if they start talking to me.

no they haven't quite started talking to me yet, a few squeeks here and there... but no words;)

1. Super modified Philips 20; fixed gear, flat black, skulls.
2. Raleigh 20 with coaster brake and baskets.
3. 1980something Holdsworth fixed gear conversion.
4. Old Kona mountain bike, set up beach cruiser-ish, this close to being torn apart and set free.

On my mind now is the 24" BMX that I want to get for tooling around with my kid, sweet jumps, etc.

Current stable is around 26 bikes:eek: ...but only one "folder" at the moment, that is my 1968 Raleigh Compact RSW. Biggest problem I have with folders in general is getting one that fits well enough to ride comfortably.(I had to use a super long modern seatpost on the RSW) I am 6'-2" with long legs. My normal road frames are in the 62-65cm range. I am seriously looking at a Brompton M3R to add to the stable in the near future. I have pretty well written off the Dahons for the time being due to a variety of reasons. My requirements are pretty tight. I want internal gears, 16" wheels for a very compact fold, generator hub, fenders and some type of rack for luggage capacity. Weight is not a major issue but is a consideration. BTW I am open to suggestions:p

2006 Specialized Allez Pro...a thing of beauty
1980's Italian steel framed road bike....don't know the brand, but nice to ride
Gitane Team MTB xt equipped...an absolute blast and very light
Raleigh 20 non folder "The WASP"...451 Velocity rims, S/A 8 speed, drops, Selle Italia saddle, 105 calipers and levers, I have original pannier racks for front and back for touring.
Raleigh 20 non folder, (the wife's), 406 Velocity rims, S/A 3 speed, MTB flat bars and bar ends..a work in progress, good for commuting.
Generic brand 24" Raleigh 20 type frame, Shimano 3 speed, needs Nexus 8 spd in my 24" Velocity rims for start of rebuild.
Various other road and MTB frame cluttering up the shed.

Me:
BikeFriday New World Tourist ("The blue NeWT")
BikeFriday Pocket Rocket Pro ("Zorro")
Bianchi Volpe (big wheel bike, no name)

Wife:
Bike Friday Pocket Nomad (no name)
Felt SR 81 ("HATFYR", a name too complicated to explain, but you can google it)
70's Raleigh Sprite ("Ariel", she's an English major)

Bikes should have names. The fact that some of ours don't indicates that the bikes are not loved enough, I suppose.
