Okay, now less than two weeks until the last leg of the KOM! Who's in?

Here is the elevation profile for the double. The century route is the middle 100 -- flag 2 to flag 6.

I may go up and do a scouting ride of part of the route this week, if anyone is interested. I just want to see what that long descent is like.

I wish I would have done this ride now. Big John told me while we were riding together yesterday how nice of a ride it really is with gorgeous scenery. He even said it is overall probably a the same or a bit easier than our Crusin' The Canejo route was.

Maybe next year !

I think this should be renamed "Lungbreak" just looking at the altitude profile

I have registered for the ride but have no plans to do a scouting ride. Although my training calendar does include the Sea To Summit scheduled for 19May.

It will be a relief for me to finish this KOM series as my ability to register for the three rides exceeded my resources to train properly this year. At any rate, hope to meet additional forum members the weekend of 26May.

Ciao!

See the high point at Apache Saddle, thats where we turn on Sea 2 Summit at mile 80 and climb another 2400 ft up to Mt. Pinos at 8400. I think John's memory is a little hazy about Heartbreak being easier than Conejo:eek:

My memory is hazy, yes, but I think the Sea to Summit goes through Lockwood Valley, not over Apache Saddle.
I didn't mean HH was easier than Cruisin', I just meant it wasn't a lot harder, like Breathless Agony or Mulholland Challenge. It is deceptively harder than it looks on paper, though. I was trying to convince Awiner that he could do it, he was thinking that he couldn't do it, and he is a good enough rider to do it, no doubt.
Having said that, I have done this loop many times since the early 90's and it is one of my favorite rides. I have done it solo back when there was no store out there. I've done it in the rain and the heat and that 23 mile downhill is great, but there could be tarantulas migrating on the road.

It's 35 miles north of Valencia on the I5.
It was nice to meet you yesterday, I didn't see you after some point near the end. Did you go ahead or back? I was with M.E. after the last stop until I gat buzzed by a car and just had to go.

I think most altitude profiles are deceiving due to the squeezing effect. They should 'stretch' out the miles on graphs to make the climbs look easy....:D

I heard a rumor yesterday that someones husband is going to go up to Pinos and back to Ventura. Guess he can't find a ride back in a car. Too bad Tony.

I'm in, I did this ride two years ago.

I also rode it in the heat the week before Breathless Agony, from the Lake of the Woods turn off. Its a great ride and the descent is great. Last time I went down it there were deer on the road in two different locations. Had to stop for one, he didn't move till the last second, and I didn't know which was he was going to go.

He actually changed his mind about doing this! Thank goodness, I was a bit worried.
He wants to try a double century, but I told him that there were plenty of organized doubles
which would be WAY better then attempting Sea to Summit to Sea!
He will be doing one of the Grand Tour routes as his first double.

Is Everyone ready for the last KOM ride??
I hope the weather will be nice!
I will be going up friday afternoon and checking in Friday night...
For anyone coming up friday night, there are like hardly ANY restaurants in the area so you
may want to eat before you get there.
There is a mexican place across from Registration and a Pizza place up the way, that is about it as
far as I know!

Remember to be prepared for any kind of weather. Last year was 36 at the start and 34 on the Mt, 45 mph wind gusts, wind chill of around 14. I have never done an organized century that has as little car traffic as this one.
I will be on a ship in the Western Med. while you people are riding, have fun and ride safe.:D

Yes the weather was horrible last year. I started in Palmdale at 515am and froze by the time I got to the Hotel (I believe the Century start/finish). The headwinds leaving Palmdale were brutal as well.

Uhmm. NO. I've been sick for the past two weeks and I've been on my bike only 3 times since Breathless. I hope I can get a ride in this week so I don't suck all the way to Heartbreak hill and back.

Sorry to hear, Jon. I had a little bout with sinus/throat infection myself this week... but doesn't sound as bad as yours. Seems to be making the rounds. See you Saturday.

But you may surprise yourself, you may actually come back STRONGER then before.
Sometimes being off the bike is what we need :)

I don't know, that's what they told me last weekend when I did a 4000ft century. I was hurting afterwards. There was this one climb only 600 feet or so where my heart rate was tacking 195 for what seemed like forever. I normally never go over 186.

Cool... hopefully I might see you a little bit more than on the Mulholland.

Any one know if you really need a camelback like Planet Ultra says on their Heartbreak Doulbe web site?

Weather is looking perfect. Although... since no weather stations along most of the route, can I assume there are some "hot spots" that will exceed the 70-ish high showing for Frazier Park?

Maricopa may be more accurate for the hottest part of the ride. It shows 91 for Saturday. Heartbreak Hill will probably be the hot spot.

Just finish before it gets hot. Of course, the 8:00 start time doesn't help.

But, you really just have to get to Heartbreak Hill. After that, it is a breeze.
