View Full Version : My new bike Cervelo P3 Carbon
Ok as far a Time Trial bike there is nothing better in my book than the Cervelo P3 Carbon. So I didn't have to deliberate on this bike choice. This one was a "no brainer".
Dura-Ace Gruppo
Profile Design Carbon T2 Cobra Aero and base bar

Nice!
Ok now, be honest. This whole RAAM thing was just an excuse to get more bikes, right? ;)

Is that you JJ Haedo?
Have you thought about a SRM?
Looks like a nice commuting bike. When are you putting the rear rack on it?

That is one beautiful bike. I would have to find about 50 watts to justify that bike for myself. I bet you'll fly on it.
I have. Tell me why you think I should think about it.
Primarily so you can use any wheelset other than 404 and 808s. Price wise, 2 powertaps and a DA crank isn't too far from the price of a SRM. Plus, the massive SRM powercontrol is much cooler than the egg shaped powertap computer.

I figured you would say that. My pro deal on Powertap is sick. I can buy 5 PowerTaps for the price of one SRM with their "pro deal". Their pro deal is only 10% of MSRP. Not a deal at all.
Customer service with Saris (Powertap) is OUTSTANDING. Everytime I call they take care of it on the spot. They have warrantied things for me without me sending in the bad unit.
In addition, as a cycling coach I can do field tests with my clients much easier with a Powertap than with an SRM. All I do is place the wiring harness with 4 zip ties and replace their rear wheel with mine and in less than 2 minutes we are doing a field test. And if I had the wireless 2.4ghz system I wouldn't even need the wiring harness. Furthermore, the "weight penalty" of the Powertap system is a hub which has such a small rotational arc that it isn't a weight penalty at all.
While the SRM is considered the "gold standard" many independent studies have shown the data from Powertap and SRM are so close that it really isn't worth the extra expense to me. SRM measures somethings higher/lower than Powertap and vice-versa.
P3 Update--RAAM positioning
Since this will be for very long distance riding I have decided on a somewhat upright position. I would like to drop it significantly further down but I am afraid that if I am too low I might suffer from Shermer's (sp?) neck, a condition where your neck muscles fail from holding your neck up during Ultras and more specifically during RAAM.
The stack height is pretty high and so I have plenty of headset spacers that I can remove as the event wears on if I am feeling good. I will also bring stems with a rise in case I am getting worse.

George, you just look fast. Hint: remove that apparatus on your wheels and you will go faster!!
Seriosuly, I sense you will pull some very fast times.

Good tip. I'll let my crew chief know about that apparatus thingy.
thank you thomson I will do my best to make all you, my new BF friends and sponsors, proud of my efforts.
Here are side by side comparisons of a relaxed aero position and a more aggressive postion.
Oh and my rear wheel Power Tap is back from Wheelbuilder.com. I recommend them highly they have built all my Power Tap wheels and I have never had to retrue them in the thousands of miles I have put on them. Tell them I sent you they are one of my sponsors too.
My P3 is complete and ready for RAAM.
George,
Awesome! I hope I can check it out when you guys pass through Indiana for showers/food...

Well if you can get PT for dirt cheap then theres no reason to get a SRM. I just wish I could used different wheels without losing my power meter.
Do you test your clients on a computrainer as well?

No I do not. I have tested clients with my Powertap on a stationary trainer BUT races and training (in Socal) isn't done on a trainer. Racing and training is done on the road with road imperfections, wind resistance and real hills. So my testing of clients is done on the very hills, courses my clients train and race on. Hence, the need for field testing.

I wasn't questioning your testing methods.

Of course not, I wouldn't think that...my responses are thorough

If you happen to have an extra one laying around, I'd be happy to pay you 2x what you paid for it :p
