I'm a recreational/commuter/exploration rider. Love getting on the bike - every time I do, I feel like I'm 10, again, off on some wonderful adventure.
Now 56, have a Bike Friday Gnu, Bike Friday Sat-R-Day, and a Trek 720.
One of the most memorable bike things I've ever done is take my bike to Paris. We (my wife and I) had been to Paris several times, before. On one visit, I was looking around and said, "You know, I think it'd be fun to bring a bike next time we come."
She thought I was nuts, but next time we came, I bought a transport box and hauled my Trek 720 hybrid through the airport.
Let me tell you: it completely changed my view of the city. I was able to cover much more ground than walking (and Paris is a great city to walk in), didn't have to mess with the metro, and was able to connect the various parts of the city in a way I could never have done in an underground.
After that, I would always have a bike with me when travelling, and got the Friday's (folders) to do it.
