Foo - Ways to Make Money - not get rich, not get quick

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
Aside from standard work, is there way to make money on side from standard work? i.g. if man work 9-5, is there smart and safe way to enduce currency? some say stock, some say invest. cyclists usually smarter than most because of oxygent to brain higher from ciruclatory exercises. what say you then? not for get rich, and not for get fast money, but sustained extra income for paying for bike, fix, maintenance, other not-cycling hobbies, some free time, maybe vacation holiday after few years.

:roflmao: :roflmao: man, you kill me
you mention stock, invest -
the way to long-term wealth is generally shove a portion of what you make every paycheck in some sort of stock market index fund (specifically which one is a topic for another board - try fool.com to learn more) and let it grow and grow and grow. you make your money but then let others use yours to make more.
Personally, I've built up a nice little nest egg from my half-a-dozen years of "standard" employment, and in the last year, my investment income was ~30% of my salary. gettin up there....
Best o luck. Let us know if you find a better way.
Maybe bring back Biopace, if the patent has expired?? :)

White collar crime. Sure you might have to spend a year or two in a country club prison, but as long as you don't go all ENRON you'll be fine. ;)

Work a second job. Put half in cash the other hand in precious metals. Then hope that the economy falls apart. If it does with cash or precious metals will be very valuable.
Invent or sell something.
I've had a great bike related idea which I'm going to manufacture and sell soon :)
May not make me rich but it'l definitely give me some spending money.
Oh, and don't 'work' for money. Create, buy or re-sell something that'll make the money for you without standard 'work'.

I am going to get a bike trailer (build one actually) and get to or 3 coolers and pile them up. Fill them with generic sodas and some candy bars (esp peanut ones) and and ice, take them to the parks where they have baseball games. Don't forget the bottled water. $1 for the water, 75c for name brand soda, 50c for generic, 65c for candy bars. I'll get them all at roughly half that except for the name brand sodas.
I do not know if it will work, but I have hopes! My son and I are doing that together to teach him about business.

Don't you need some sort of vendor permit? I understand that kiddie lemonade stands don't get busted for this but the adult presence might be an issue
next time you're riding on the community trail pick up cans and recycle.
you'll be cleaning the trail, helping the environment, and putting quite a few nickles in your pocket.

Ways to make money:
1. inherit money from REALLY rich parents
2. marry a rich bimbette (male or female variety, negotiable depending on your state)
3. make something you can sell
4. do something someone will pay you to do
5. spend less
just remember -- the creation of wealth requires trading your time and talent for other people's money. If you try to start a business, you will probably wind up working three times harder than you ever thought possible. There's no way for wealth to generate itself while you are outside having fun riding your bike. You'll have to work at it, just like everything else.
Unless you look so cute in diapers and with your head shaved bald that Warren Buffet will adopt you. Then you can go back up to the first option on the list.

I so want to hear the Pup weigh in on this one.
I would do something easy, like panhandle on street corners. I stood in front of my loft in Dallas one night and made $20 plus saying "money for beer, money for pizza." Got a pepperoni pie and a 12 pack of beer for about an hour of fun with friends.

do anyone heres hate rich mans? No, because to hate them would be to hate yourself when you're rich. This is a subconscious block a lot of people have against being rich.
Best investment is to invest in yourself first; education goes a long way. Not traditional schoolbook knowledge, but street-smarts in finances. Some call it financial literacy. Basically it comes down to being smart with money, not something that is taught in schools.

I would add that this is not as hard to do as most people seem to think it is. But it does take some effort to learn how the world of money really works.

This is an interesting thread, given my current circs.
I've been going through the process of becoming a permanent resident of Canada (I'm a New Englander by birth) and can't legally hold a 'regular' job until I get further along in the process.
My expenses are very low, and I'm staying with friends that will accept labor for an offset of the rent (I'm the cook around here/ among other things). But to shore up the difference, I've been collecting cans/bottles. And it's amazing that in a 3 hour pre-dawn ride, I can easily collect $30. It helps that Penticton is a touristy/party town, but I'm still amazed!

As a design engineer with lots of ideas and a few patents, the only real way to make money is to invent, manufactue, market, sell and believe in a product. Something needed by people. Not a few people but a lot of people.
I have had people approch me with their ideas to design and develop. Some are good, others are terrible, which I tell them so and save them money.
Believe in something and stick with it.
Lead don't follow.

I build computers.
I'm the only person within 10 miles of the town I live in that knows anything about computer hardware.
As such, my experience and knowledge are highly sought after, and I get paid for them.
Find something only you or a few other people can do, or something most people aren't willing to do, and sell it.

Learn about investing, cash flows, how to read financial statements, how to read between the lines in press releases and things like 10Q's and 10K's. Learn to interpret Industry news from places like Barons and Wall Street Journal.
Read up on the various investment vehicles that exists: Stocks, bonds, mutual funds, options, futures, etc.
These are the basics behind sound investing. Then it takes a lot of patients and homework.
Or you could chose an index fund, and set up a periodic plan such as monthly investing. On average, the stock market will produce 8-10% annual returns over extended periods (10+ years). By playing an index fund, one can basically get the stock market as a whole.

Valet Parking. I'm dead serious. I'm pretty sure I made more per hour parking cars than as a surgical intern. If you find a good place, there's money to be made. As a bonus, you get to do some running on the job.

It would vary, but I made $4.25 an hour in regular pay, then tips on top of that. On an average weeknight I'd have $30-50 in my pocket for 2-3 hours' work. Holidays like New Year's Eve, etc. would just get insane. I worked at a country club, so people whom I knew and saw week in/week out would start dropping 20's, 50's, etc. around the holidays.

Man, that is just like what I went through. Have you been pulled over by 3 cop cars yet? I guess having someone riding at 5:00 in the morning seemed suspicious... :-)
Paid for my new computer back then, 8 years ago now. Ten years since I moved here. Also mowed lawns for some money.
