Can anyone recommend a good place to get a steel frame blasted and powder coated? I could hit the YellowPages, but would prefer to use someone who has worked with bike frames before. Prices would be helpful too.:)

Cheers,
Pat

Don't know of anyone myself, but you might give Silver Cycles (a bike shop in Silver Spring) a call and ask for a guy named Gary. He rehabs old bikes and seems pretty knowledgeable. He might know of somebody who can do good work. Their number is 301-585-1889 and I think they are open like 10-7 most days. Good luck.

I recall that one bikeforums member, donhaller (http://www.bikeforums.net/member.php?u=38116), has had a bike bead-blasted and powder coated at a place called "East Coast Powder Coat (http://www.eastcoastpowdercoat.net/index.htm)" in the town of "North East" Md (very close to Delaware border, about 2 hours drive).

I'd like to have this done myself someday. I bet that regular powder coat places that don't normally do bikes would probably be fine. I can't think of customers that would be more obsessive than car/motorcycle enthusiasts and that's who powder coat outfits deal with, right? So its probably reasonable to expect they could handle a bike frame-- I think.

It looks like the way to go is RMS powder coating. Super nice guy, and willing to work with my work hours. I'll report back soon.

Sorry, should have posted that.

Prepped and coated with any color they have in stock $150. If they have to order the color I think the price is $160.

I have a client that would probably do it cheap. But you would pretty much have to choose military creme or green color.

I sent mine to East Coast Powder Coat, in North East, Maryland It cost just over $100 for a basic yellow, but they can do other stuff. I have had them do several pieces for my car and the bike as well. I highly recommend them.

Click on the link in my signature where it says to see my latest creation. That bike was coated by them. It has been done for over a year and had many miles on it and it is wearing very good.
