How do you remove a cassette from the ?freehub?

do you jsut slide it off, or does it have something to do with the bolt on the freehub?

thank you in advance

p.s.It is a mountain bike in case that makes a difference.

There's a tool that engages the lockring, looks like this one:

The cogs and freehub body have to be held stationary while you unscrew the lockring, or they'll just rotate with it. That's done with a chain whip:

Wouldn't it be hardcore if you could just hold the cassette with your hands?

I have done a couple that were so loose I could do it with just my hands and the spline tool. Looks pretty impressive(If you don't know the secret)
