Mountain - Plains - St. Louis - Is Lemay Ferry A Safe Ride?

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.
I'll be trying to commute to work this fall and I'm unsure about Lemay. I'll be riding it from Hwy 141 to Lindberg back and forth five days/nights a week. I've driven it, in my car, a couple times and while for good portions of it there is an okay shoulder or sidewalk, there are some bad spots.
Just wondering if anyone has done it or knows of a better route from Arnold to South County?
Thanks,
Mashu

Hmmm, tough call, it's got a nice shoulder, but you are talking about a 4-lane with a turn lane. Man, that's a busy road all day, and especially at rush hour, with many many businesses along there many access points to the road. Personally, I'd avoid it.

I used to live in St. Louis, and I'm trying to think of other options. Is Telegraph Road way out of your way? I believe you have to cross the Meramec River, right? There may not be a lot of other options. If you can avoid rush hour, you may be OK. If you decide to go for it, get a good mirror, and pay attention to what's ahead of you, and behind you.
I did a some cycling when I was back there in February, but it was mostly around West County. The new Page Bridge is nice, with a dedicated cycling lane.
Good luck, and be safe.

Yea, I'm still unsure. Tesson would be a bit out of the way (though a portion of tesson has a ddicated bike lane) and I do have to cross the Meramec. Thank you for the link though. I'll have to try and ask there.
You have two bottlenecks, the Meremac river and I-255/270. It depends on were you are going on Lindberg. You could take Lemay Ferry to Meremac Bottom, left, to the west side of I-55 and take Kerth, north, to Town Centre, west, to Ambs, north, to Mattis, east, and the just before you cross back over I-55 there is a road on the left (I don't know the name) it winds around and goes under I-270 and come outs by the "Weekends Only" store on Lindberg. The problem with this route is Kerth, a lot of traffic, no berm.
You could take Lemay Ferry to Lemay Woods, right, to Yeager, left, to Ringer, right, to Mehl, left, and back onto Lemay Ferry by the Old Navy store, but Yeager and Ringer are petty narrow.
