"The 33"-Road Bike Racing - DC Area Racing

Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

I find myself living in DC for 5 weeks (until June 17) and wanted to know from area BF'ers where I can find some racing (need just 3 more for the upgrade from 5 to 4). I've already looked at BikeReg, but they don't always list everything, especially weeknight local races. I remembre reading about races at Greenbelt park and will look into that, but if anyone else can point me to links or club sites or anything it would be much appreciated. I'm also looking for training rides or great places to ride, I'd be extremely grateful for any information. Thanks.

Check out the Great Group Ride Map or whatever it's called. There's also a complete race schedule to look at with links to registration.
Greenbelt info can be found at www.route1velo.com. click on "Greenbelt," then General Info.
We (Route 1 Velo/Capitol Hill Bikes) also have a Sunday 9AM ride that leaves from the shop (Capitol Hill Bikes) and can turn into a hilly hammerfest on the weekends. Not as bad a thrashing as the DC Velo rides because we have fewer upper-cat guys, but still a tough ride for us 4/5 types. There's also a more social ride option.
What part of town are you living in? that might help with ideas for group rides as well.

Sorry, I'm in Arlington, VA, near the Clarendon metro stop. Thanks for all of the great links, I'm going to try to make it to Greenbelt on Wednesday. I don't have a car, is it possible to bike there? The Route1velo site says that bike directions are coming.

Here's a link with directions from the shop. If you can get to downtown, you can use this for the rest of it: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=321714
Also, you could take the metro from Clarendon to Greenbelt. The station is a couple minutes' ride from Greenbelt Park.
If you're in VA, make sure you check out Squadra Coppi's Sunday ride. I have yet to go, but it's supposed to be a good one. It should be on the great group ride map too...

Thanks DrPete for all of the help, I'm looking forward to getting some racing in. I may not be able to make this Wednesday's race due to a prior commitment (hopefully I can get out of it), but for sure next week. I'll be the guy in the NYU kit.
Well, if it's next week I'll be the roadguard who looks pi$$ed off that he's not racing. :)
