Anyone else doing this?

I wanted to do it, but they're not offering a century route. I'll be doing the cross timbers classic instead.

I'll be pulling out to go to work about the time it passes my house.:(
Going to have to pass on this one. I'll likely do a short solo or small group ride with jsharr or something this weekend. But I've been off the bike far too long to jump into a major ride first weekend back.

we could do the 40 slow and drop out if need be?

Thinking about the 40 mile route...
I've got guests coming over around noon so plan to be home and done before then. I'm thinking an early 20mi or so is more going to be my cup of tea. If I feel good I might be ready for something longer on Sunday.

The 40 miler is doable, even after a layoff. I'm so far behind last year. It'll be interesting. The hardest part of the ride is miles 21-44. If you cut out at 40 you miss all that.

check out the route and find somewhere to park your truck around mile 20? I can pick you up there and we can start together if you want to do this ride.

The Wildride benefits the Lance Armstrong shaped beam laser program (part of the radiation oncology dept. and one of the few shaped beam lasers in the country) at Richardson Regeional Medical Center. I've been the director of the lab (not the radiation oncology dept), here at Richardson for about 8 years. This is a good ride for a good cause. I'll be there. Our CEO is a cyclist and I usually ride it with him.
See you there.
Planning on doing the 64. I will be wearing a funky blue CTS jersey.

Cool, I haven't decided on a jersey for this year yet.

Good luck and be safe to those riding tommorow! I might even cheer those that are doing the 64 as they go through Nevada/Josephine along FM 1138

Anyone know what happened that required Careflight? I saw the ambulance, firetruck, helo and about 10 police cars, but I didn't see the reason for all the activity. I sincerely hope it was not a rider involved.
I was coming through there when the first responders where showing up and moving into position to help. There were several cyclists already helping so I didn't stop. The PD folks were wanting to keep us from getting in the way of the emergency vehicles coming in so they waved us quickly through. I didn't see any cars involved. It looked like a rider went down or a few bikes got tangled up. One cyclist was washing blood off of her arms in the median as I went by though. So it probably had not been going too well for whomever went down.
I heard that a Careflight had been brought in by some of the folks who came in later. Nobody in their group saw any wreckers or damaged cars then either.
Did anybody else...besides moi...flat out on that frikkin run across the damn dam? When I came through a ton of us did, like one every 100 feet. Kept the RBM wrench at the next rest stop busy all morning from what he told me when I stopped by on the way back.

I managed to not flat on the dam. But it looked like better than 1 in 100 odds for flatting in the group I was with.
Nothing to add on the accident... Looks like I passed through about the same time, and I didn't check for details from my ham radio buddies yet.

This is the one time each year the dam is open to traffic. The only debris that gets cleaned off is from rain and wind.
I was at RBM this afternoon buying some new shoes (Side Zeta Mega goodness) and heard that the woman who went down t-boned someone. The RBM employees that I overheard said it was a group that appeared to be racing in a charity ride. Said it was kinda dicey in that group.

It was a great ride with nice cool temps and no rain.

Is the laser beam attached to a shark's head? :D
Glad it was a good ride. WIsh I could have been there.

I was at a Make-A-Wish function on Sunday and a friend said she heard that someone was killed at the Wild Ride, on Saturday. Is that true?
Did anyone get a follow up on the person who was CareFlighted out of there?
I can't seem to find any info on it.

OMG, I hope not. That is so sad if true.
I can imagine that media would just run with this type of story (in the wrong direction) :(

Someone was hit by a car that flew through an intersection. More details as I hear more.

The driver of the car didn't stop as instructed by the policeman at the intersection of Campbell and Garland Rd. The cyclist is in the ICU at Baylor University Medical Center.
How blind would a driver have to be to have blown through that intersection! I'm surprised that they didn't hit one of the traffic control officers as well. God help the cyclist because it looked really bad when I was coming through.
This explains some of what I heard at Richardson Bike Mart. I heard employees talking about racing to get through an intersection and someone getting t-boned. Did not know if it was the car or the bike that raced through the intersection.

A friend from another board got t-boned at a ride in the Houston area. The same thing, a guy ignored the cop and hit him, sent him flying over the top of the truck and onto the pavement way behind the truck. He's okay, but still not back on the bike or off of crutches and this was at the first of the year.
It's sad, but just because there are cops there doesn't mean we can let our guard down and not check out what the cars are doing.

I have a short update:
Melissa Rutledge hit the passenger side of a car – she had no time to react to avoid injury. The accident was at Garland and Campbell Road and there was an officer on duty at that intersection. Other details about the accident have not been released.
She is at Baylor Medical Center and her condition remains critical but stable.
