I bought an english three-speed (Dunelt)at a yard sale. It has a Brooks saddle but it is a ladies bike. Are they unisex and is there a way to know what model it is? The hub is March of 69 and the bike appears to have the original tires so I am assuming the saddle is period. It is white in near perfect condition. Thanks.

They can be. I ride the Brooks B-17 Standard, which I suppose is technically a "men's" saddle, but it works for me, so I don't care.

Check the Brooks site for more info: http://www.brookssaddles.com/

WOW Dunelt DID actaully make female specific bikes, realones, not jusy girly-girl ones, Brooks is uni- I reckon, by and large, you MAY have a ladies saddle, frankly,it matters little. Terry make some of the very best saddles fo guys too. Some guys use the female models, ten of thousands of guys use Terry.I don't know a whole lot about Dunelt. I remember girls, young ladies who could afford them, did. Very much the same level as Raleigh, they're up there in quality and chic, handbuilt in England. I think they stopped importing them in the early '70s, when the French bikes came into play. My home town sporting goods store had them, right next to the Raleighs for the boys. Some kids got Royce Unions, OK,Japanese, less$

There are female specific Brooks saddles. The saddle is a bit wider and the nose is a bit shorter. Wallbike.com should have the details.

Thanks. Appears to be B.66 S Universal in white without the holes and a smooth top.

That really depends on you, I suppose. Brooks does make some ladies only designs, and some ladies versions of "standard" designs for men.

You, however, may or may not prefer the ladies design. (Like Machka mentioned about her B17.) My wife does like her ladies B17, but at the same time she has never been on my "standard" one.

I just set my friend up with a B17s (the 'ladies' model), and she's pretty happy with it, but from what i can see it's just the same as my regular B17 but with a shorter, rounded nose... and the main reason for having a shorter nose AFAIK is so that your skirt won't catch.

But who rides with a skirt these days?

All of the Brooks "S" saddles are for females.
