Hello all,
My wife and I want to do some international traveling with our Cannondale 2007 Road Tandem (which we love, by the way).
Any advice? Where do we go about purchasing a bike box for it?
Thanks!
Charlie

BikePro in Phoenix makes a tandem bag. Pricey . . . or look for a used one.
Or, use a cardboard tandem shipping box . . . or splice 2 regular carboard bike boxes together.
Some foreign airlines do not demand you use a box, others do. Some have hefty surcharge for 'oversize/overweight' containers.
Enjoy your travels!

Take a look at this

Hope it helps
De Sousa site unfortunately applies to pre -'02 pricing
and current day pricing especially airlines would be 2-3x
as much as on Brian's site.

I was thinking more of the packing method, which the OP asked about, more than the transport cost. BTW, for transatlantic travel, BA, for example do not charge. A bike is considered sporting equipment and not part of the baggage allowance, even if it is a big box.

We are flying to Rome in September with our Santana tandem for a tour of Tuscany. We plan on using our tandem shipping box which we saved. You might check a LBS that sells tandems to see if they could save a box for you.

Hey Velodiva,
I think we will be seeing you in Italy.
On our last trip to Europe, we were charged $80 to take our Stowaway Airline Safecase on the plane (American Airlines). Ironically, many people on the trip with full sized tandems in BikePro bags were not charged anything. Cardboard shipping boxes were expensive all around (except probably for the McCreadys, who bring all their rental tandems in cardboard boxes...but you have to be as smooth as Bill to get them by the airline desk...nobody is as smooth as Bill).

Hello 72and sunny,
That is fantastic! We look forward to meeting you - September is not too far off! We are flying AA - expect to get charged about $80 for the tandem. Not as slick as Bill.
