My my much vaunted rain/winter bike is actualy finnished , ready to roll ect , at last , had to fit a new 27" tyre on the back ,luckily its raining so I can give it a try tomorrow :D I gave it a test run a few weeks ago when ' toolfreak' was here, it went ok but since then ive put the panniers & rack on, lights ect , we went on a trail ride but after our return the rear tyre blew up  If I had a camera I could post a pic as it deffinatly belongs in classic & vintage ,very reminisant of a '50s-60s' touring bike , I feel I should wear long socks & +2s when I ride it !

What kind of bike is it? I'm looking at converting an early 1980's Canadian built Raleigh "Super Record" road bike to a commuter with fenders and rack. It would be back to the MTB for the winter, though - I don't think drop bars and riding in snow go together very well.

I don't know the make as its had a very clean paint job done (grey) not very exciting ,although the frame is quite old , steel . its a bigger frame than my regulare road bike (which is also a border line classic ) which is built out of Tange 900 d/butted CR-MO tube & this frame is marginaly lighter than that one ! it came with old 105 hubs & cranks/ chainwheels ,rear& front 105 changers, all in good cond. The chainstays are 2" longer than on my other bike & the w/base is 3" longer .I took it out for a 40 k ride to-night & I was well pleased with it :) it was'nt raining but the road was wet & the fenders worked well .I did notice though when taking down hill curves fast it felt a bit washy, almost like I was getting a flat tyre, I put this down to the lower pressure ( 70 psi ) of the too wide cheapo tyres (the only 27" ones avl.) I've got fitted + tyre liners , but Im used to 110 psi of the 700x23c,s on the other bike . The other side of the brake bridge rear brakes (to accomodate the pannier rack) seemed to work well . I took the chain-rings off a while ago & put them on my other bike as it had Bio-pace c/rings so this bike now has the Bio-pace rings but they seem ok I had quite a job adjusting the old 105 front changer to work smoothly with them , I was tempted to swap it with the Exage changer of the other bike but I got it right in the end :) I seemed to be able slip back into changing with the friction shifters ok & was trying alpine changes with varying rates of success ;) by the the time I got home.
