We're thinking of ordering Pizza afterwards or doing the Backbay, depends on how many show up and what everyone wants to do...or maybe both??

If you want to join us send me a PM and I'll PM the address...

PS. This is Weds evening, May 15th

Tonight (Tuesday) is the 15th...is it on Tues or Wed? Sorry, I'm out of the loop.

EDIT. I checked the other thread and see that it's on the 16th. I'd be up for joining...will probably go for a ride about 5 or 5:30 and then meet up with you. What time?

I'm in and meeting at Jag's house. Not sure I'm up for an additional back bay ride but pizza sounds good.

I've been hit by a car twice so I did this ride in 2005 and 2006. Unfortunately I find it a bit pointless. Half of it is on a bike path where nobody sees us anyway. The other half is on the streets but surely drivers cannot hear us and most of them can't see the black armbands either. The ride is supposed to raise awareness among drivers but the way it is organized I don't think it will work. I will definitely do it again if they close one or two lanes on the I-405 and let us ride there.

Jimmy - not certain if you are aware but this year the Irvine motorcycle officers will be escorting the riders and flashing their lights so most definitely the riders will be seen. Most of the route will be on street and keep in mind it starts at 7 and will most likely end at 8 - 8:30 (it's only 9 miles) just before it gets that dark. It will be a large group this year with many, many clubs and other riders joining.

Anyway, I hope as many people as possible join the riders... the more the merrier!!!!!

And the date is definitely WED. MAY 16.

I would love to join, But I'm on duty at the local fire station. Don't crash cuz I have a trainee who is very nervous. I'll ride at 6am though.

Thanks Pam! Yeap, police escort will be a big step in the right direction. I'll try to make it.

Hey, I just checked with the Fullerton organizer, and there's a ride in Fullerton, too. Meets at 6:30, rides out at 7:00. Starts at the... park area (?) on Wilshire just east of Harbor.

I will try to be there too! I'm flying out of LAX Thur. to MN/WI for the 3-Speed tour, so I have to be all packed for that before my wife will let me ride the Ride of Silence.

So I will try to be there, but can't promise at this point!

Man, I thought it was tonight - somebody told me Tuesday.

I had already worked it out with my other half - free night tonight for me to do the ride and tomorrow she is meeting with friends so I'll be watching our daughter.

Hmm, maybe I'll have her do the ride with me...

Link (http://www.sellin.com/silence/)

Because the link on the BCI page is not working, I figured that I would submit it here.

I am going to try and be there, but since I have a dinner party planned I might not get there in time...

Philly. You wanna go for an easy ride before the event...say around 5 or 5:30? Others are welcome too.

For those of you meeting at Irvine City Hall...look for the fat guy in the UCLA Bruins jersey and say "hello" :)

Any reports from tonight?

Fun ride! A couple hundred people showed up. The police blocked every intersection for us so it was a non-stop trip around Irvine. David Whiting from the OC Register was there riding with us all too! There were news cameras out, so I have a pretty good feeling we'll see some coverage of the event in Irvine tomorrow. I also met Bill Sellin there, the event organizer. Makes me want to get a road bike and makes me want to host a weekly Irvine to the Beach via the Back Bay ride!

Yes, I agree, great to have support from the Irvine Police! I thought the whole event was very well organized, and well carried out. Saw friends from the Rebels, BCI, and OCW. It did look like a couple hundred riders, but I didn't count!

Tried to find Jag's place before the ride, but couldn't find the exact address (and didn't see any bike people hanging about), so drove up to the Civic Center for the 7:00 PM start.

Yep, Irvine PD did a great job and while there were quite a few riders out, I was hoping to see a bit more. It was also nice to see a mix of riders, some seasoned roadies, some MB'ers and a few younger folk.

I was annoyed to hear of couple of people chatting away on the ride and was saddened to see a woman just break down in tears at the end of the ride - kinda enforced the reason we were there.

In the end, I was glad I made it and regretted not taking my daughter. Next year.

Like you said, I do hope it gets coverage in the local paper/media to help the residence understand the reason behind it all. I imagine that all the motorists last night were just annoyed from the delay - 'more cyclists thinking they own the road' type of thing. I would be nice for them to hear the reason for it all.

Were there any Irvine PD actually on bikes doing the ride? I do know that there are a couple of them who ride, although I don't know them personally.

Maybe next time I should do the ride myself, so I don't have to ask all these questions! :)
