Okay I've got an old/antiquated Trek 8300 Carbon with the EA-70 Rear, that I dug up to revamp until I can find a decent deal on a dually (rant will eventually come later about these bikes and their prices). Currently I'm using Bontrager hubs and V-brakes. Basically my problem is figuring out what new/newer(used_ wheel set to get? I'm a semi-Clydesdale at around 185-190 (lean) so losing weight is not in my scope. I CANNOT seem to find a wheel set that doesn bend, warp, taco from not even hard abuse. By "hard" I mean 2ft jump or ramp off a curb. I don't want something that's bomb-proof like DH that weights a ton, since I'm trying to follow the lightweight theme of the frame's intent... but what can I do? I've been out of the mtn-bike scene for a long time so I don't know what currently is "good," or "better" Vs my old yester-year's Deore XT gear?

...Also FLATS.. OMG I cannot seem to avoid them. I get them very often, as of last night after checking everything and test riding I notice the rear a little low from not riding in a while, but nothing alarming; came off a curb and POOF suddenly I'm riding on rear rim!!! I've got those earth-guard liners between my tires and tube and STILL get F'ing flats?! I don't make it a habit to ride through glass or thorns nor hot coals, but all these flats are very annoying. Yes I've checked the rim, tires for glass etc... I don't know wtf to do anymore. I was thinking that I could switch to tubeless and fill with some special flat preventative fluid, but I'm not sure these days as I've been out of biking for a while... any insight would help on a nice wheel-set (tubeless, disk brake pref) for my bike... that and should I even bother revamping this bike or just keep saving for a hopeful deal on a dually (4-5in travel) since I think newer bikes are just outrageously overpriced (my ignorance I guess) for "mountain biking" aka not specialized DH'ing, and racing. Just an enthusiast's level dually for semi-big hit, single tracking etc... blah this is blabbing now! Thanks all. :)

Geesh, NOT 1 recommendation? Come on folks I know someone else is/had a similar situation, this would be very helpful advise not only for myself but for anyone else in the same rut... any thoughts appreciated.

If you wrecking wheels that easily, you're likely using wheels that weren't properly built. Any decent wheelset should be able to stand up to your use.

The flat in your description above is a pinch flat...due to a lack of air pressure. Add enough air to the tire so that you stop getting the pinch flats. You could also working on being a little more smooth with the landings...that would help as well.

Alright a bite! Thanks for the reply!

I mean it's not THAT often like every week, but enough that I'm getting annoyed to the point where I'd consider carbon/specialized rims so I don't have to deal with it at all/as minimal as possible...?

Far as pinch flats, yeah it was, I checked and saw it right on the side :-/ That is why I asked about a nice tubeless setup and if filling with sealing/slime fluid would be a better alternative to invest in Vs tubes. Tubes are very annoying to deal with... always something popping mine even with these lousy earth-guards, which make a horrible sqeaking-like noise when it gets colder out. Creak-creak-creak-creak.. lol very embarrassing on a nice looking carbon bike. Like having squealing brakes on a Porsche, just doesn't mix well with me. So can you recommend something or links - I've been out of serious mnt-biking hardware for a while so I don't know what's what any more aside from the usual XTR/Paul type stuff... :o

Thanks! :D
