Hey All,

I'm going to be starting the Transamerica route in about a week, will be picking my bike up at the UPS center in Newport News (735 Middle Ground Blvd) and was hoping to ride from there over to Yorktown to start the trip west. Was just looking at maps of the area and didn't see an obvious route between those places. Any suggestions on what would be the most bike friendly route? Don't need bike paths obviously, but it would be nice to know in advance which roads have decent shoulders, less traffic, etc. Thanks! -Ian-

Take Canon Blvd toward Oyster Point/Victiory Blvd. Cross I64 If you need anthing Bikebeat is on your right after you cross the Highway. Youu can see the back of the building from Vicotry (Right at light then first right go two blocks.) They can give you better directions to Yorktown. But most likely stright up Rt 17.

Shoulders? If there is 6 inches you are lucky.

Thanks! Got over to Bikebeat and they had a nice little map with a route through residential areas all the way up to Yorktown. Ride has been beautiful so far - good weather and nice scenery! Later.
