Northern California - Norcalers, portola loop

I'm trying to figure out how to get there google maps is being stupid.

I don't know what city, my directions are corner of foothill and stanford ave.

I can't find any such intersection on google maps. ;)

Start from the intersection of Sand Hill and foothill (called Junipero Serra Blvd there). Go west on Sand Hill. It becomes Portola rd. and goes through Portola Valley. Take a right at the intersection with Alpine. Make sure to stop there, the county sherriff sometimes sets up camp and tickets cyclists who roll through the stop.
Follow Alpine down the hill, it eventually ends up about 100 yards from the intersection of Sand Hill and Foothill, excuse me, Junipero Serra.

Ok, so it was what I thought it was.

We're meeting at stanford ave, and foothill but it turns into junipero serra on the left side of the intersection. So I do have the right place, in Palo Alto. Thanks man.

EDIT: you got it already and I was off some. Oops!

Try Cupertino... or Sunnyvale... or Los Altos...

If I'm following this correctly, wouldn't you actually make a left on Alpine, and go down the hill?....

Here (http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/?r=958575) is the route. It can be done clockwise or counterclockwise. CCW you would indeed be turning left onto Alpine from Portola.

The Portola Loop take about 1 hour, unless you wheel suck the group that meets on Old Page Mill Road at noon every day. Those folks are really fast.

You aren't going to be sucking much wheel, nor for very long, from Noon Riders if you aren't reasonably fast yourself. It takes a lot of work just to hang on.

That sounds awesome, I didn't even know this existed.

It's a great ride, great tradition (been going for some 20+ years I think). Frequently populated with State, National, and World Champion riders, Domestic Pros, former Olympians, and many very very strong local riders and racers. Mondays and Fridays are the "easy" days.

Thats pretty sweet. How many show up on any given day?

Varies quite a bit. Usually at least 30, sometimes a lot more. It starts at the intersection of Old Page Mill and Page Mill, but it picks up (and drops!) people all along the route.
