This happend when I was going for a ride at lunchtime yesterday, I wasn't wearing a helmet(STUPID) and was resetting my computer, when I looked up-BAMMMM! You can see the video on myspace under videos. I wasn't injured and my bike was undamaged, the SUV is a different story...lots of scratches. I bounce pretty good for an old fat guy..

That sucks, sorry man. Glad you were not injured too badly.
Would you say speed and position were factors also.
I know not looking is a factor.
Yet all the cars in the second row are facing you, and you look to be going pretty fast for not looking.
Just thought to add an opinon....
Glad you ok for another day!

Drissel, I'm glad to hear that you're okay, and I'm sure you'll use this as a learning experience. But I do have to say that I found the video to be a little funny (and I feel guilty about it). I think it was a combination of the security camera's low framerate and the way you bounced at the end. But again, I'm glad you're okay.

Its always funny when its happening to somebody else and not to you. The OP should send that to Funniest Home Videos. Its worth a shot.
On a serious note. Always, and I mean always pay attention in the parking lots for cars backing up. I'm more nervous and cautious in huge parking lots full of cars compared to streets full of running cars. Parked cars have the worst blindspots when parked next to each other.

If you're not hurt and the bike is okay... why not do it again tomorrow? And the next day. Well, it's one way to get drivers to be more careful. Look out for Kamikaze Drissel... he rams SUVs for lunch!

Is that really you? How did you get the footage?
Glad you're ok.... speedy mcspeestien... :-)
... I wasn't wearing a helmet(STUPID) ... I wasn't injured and my bike was undamaged
If you were not hurt, then why the big comment about not wearing a helmet. I assume you must have been wearing Mountain biking downhill racing body armor since you did not mention that you were not wearing it.;)
Glad you were not hurt.:)

Yup, if you had seen that Land Cruiser pulling out, most likely you would have avoided the whole thing. I was once backing out of a parking space and didn't see another car passing. She couldn't avoid me and the result was damage along the right side of her car. And it was my fault.
As for your situation, you were both at fault. I can only imagine that it isn't easy seeing out the back of the Land Cruiser. Still...my take on these situations is that according to the law, the car backing out of a space is always responsible for watching out for traffic. That's what the officer told me.
Glad to hear you are OK!

The street in front of my house is narrow and I drive a truck with a camper shell on the back so it's hard to see behind me. For some reason friends of my neighbor across the street insist on parking directly across from the end of my driveway even though there are many other places just as close to park in our rural subdivision. I've warned them several times that I can't see that well when backing up and I'm likely to not notice them parked there. It's an accident waiting to happen and it would be my fault.
Finally after warning this one particular guy twice, the third time I just went across the street to my neighbor's yard and grabbed his foam bow & arrow practice target and tapped it to the side of his buddy's truck with the bullseye right over the driver's door. I guess he finally took the hint as that was the last time he parked there. :D
