So what's the plan for bike to work day. I've been wanting do do the commute for a while now. The only thing that's held me back it that until I get another bike I have to do it on my beach cruiser. The commute is 12.5 miles, hardly much for a road bike. But it's uphill most of the way. Still, I've got 3-speeds. I'm at least going to go for it this Friday. I'm expecting to see a bunch on people out Friday morning. Are you?

I thought it was the 17th? I'm still planning on doing it both thursday and friday per my normal bike commute routine.

Yes, it's Thursday. The one day this week I really CAN'T ride to work (offsite meeting and an evening event until 11pm).
But I'll be riding on Friday.

i've been riding to work every day for the last two years. i will ride to work as always and a training ride. lately i've been going to the rose bowl after work to do the training ride there. i usually do about 70 miles with riding to work, riding over to the rose bowl and the rose bowl ride itself. someone usally gives me a ride home from there as it's getting dark. tomorrow i will ride before work as i have to take my wife to the airport that evening.

I'll be riding to work like I do everyday.
I'll be surprised if I see even one other person riding.
I would ride if I had an office to go to...

I'll telecommute tomorrow and ride from my bedroom to my home office ... via Santiago Canyon, Bake, Irvine Blvd, and Jamboree! :D
Rode in to work today, as I will do at least once a week while the days are long. Nice 14 mile cruise with about 850' of vertical. Too bad it's so grey and almost drizzly today.

Well, I know it's the 17th for Northern Cali. But for SD it's Friday, I'm pretty sure.

Well, if it's this Thursday, no can do. Dinner plans. But I am going to "try" to commute to work twice a week, starting the week of May 28th. I'm mapping out a route for myself. I just have to figure out the logistics of getting my clothes to the office, etc. I'm sure I'll forget my heels or something the first couple of times! :D

If it's just a couple of days a week, on the days you drive leave a duffel bag in the office with work clothes for the next day.

First time i did it i forgot to bring shoes to work... So it sounded like i was walking around in high heels all day with my MTB cycling shoes.
I'm riding tomorrow (the 17th, the 'official' LA Bike to Work day). I would love to do it more often, but the roads are not optimal, and it's about 19 miles each way, which takes a bit longer on the velocipede than it does the car or motorbike. Still, looking forward to tomorrow's ride. I brought clothes for tomorrow in today, so I won't have to carry my entire wardrobe.

I rode today; my "new" Dean build. I'll be riding tomorrow, which is the official day in my parts. I'll ride Friday, too. My commute ranges from 14-18 miles depending on the route I take.

Oh, my dear MAN...we women require much much more than a duffel bag. ;) I'll have to leave a duffel bag with all my beauty products, hair dryer, suit, blouse, heels and an extra set of bike clothes (I'm not putting the stinky pair on from the morning to ride home after all...ewwww!) up in my office. This will require planning on my part to ensure that I don't forget anything!

Good for you ME. Keep a pair of shoes at work then just carry a change of clothes.
Don't forget underwear. Weird, I did exactly that for the very first today.
I can't recommend commando on chilly mornings, but that's just me.

 Funny you mention that. I DID forget my underwear and bra one day (I go to the gym in the mornings typically) and went commando all day. I didn't like it personally. That just doesn't seem right at WORK. :p
I would have to sit in my own stew all dayafter riding in...no way. I ride after work with my buddies. Now if they put a shower in, I'd ride to work EVERY day possible! But there's only 9 people in the office and frankly, they find it hard enough to flush:eek: , yet alone put in a shower.:D
My commuter bike is all set for tomorrow's ride to work. I usually do this about 2 times a week. I have a secure bike locker at work. I also have my own locker with clothes, shoes, etc, in the locker room. Looking forward to the commute home (the long version), helps gets me through the day.

I rode to and from work today. The first time I did it at this job. I usually do the drive in, ride back leaving the car at work, and ride back in the next day. I think I'll do that thursday evening/friday morning because I have budding plans for happy hour friday.

Oh yeah, forgot about that - lucky for me, my work attire is business casual, so I don't have to worry about getting a suit wrinkled. The other MAN advantage is I can leave one pair of shoes at work that goes with all my outfits.
I just bite the bullet and wear the same stinky bike clothes twice - after all, I'm not riding with others, and I can't smell myself. :D

Had a good commute yesterday...can't do tomorrow. Sun came out in the afternoon for the ride home. Unfortunately, I got two phone calls from vendors so I had to pull over and talk business. Funny thing is that neither time did the caller ask me why I was so breathy! (hmmm...that's scary)

Allright, so it's decided! I'm doing my 12.5 mile uphill commute on my Electra Deluxe 3-Speed. That's going to be challenging! If there is anybody else out there that wants to join me let me know. The trip starts down in Leucadia and ends at the Vista business park. Although I expect to see a lot of people out tomorrow even with the crappy weather we've had.

yah I'm gonna commute, 3.9 minutes, time it takes is about 12-13 minutes. Its too short, by the time my legs are warmed up, I'm almost at work already. I usually ride my SS to work every now and then.

Rode into work today, 10.68 miles. Took it leisurely, and took 41 minutes into the office. I did stop by the "energizer" station, which had coffee cake and coffee ... that's a nice pit stop on the way into work. I'll post a couple of pics when I get home.
Rode in today also. 18.8 miles. 52 degrees and misty when I left the house in Simi. Nice ride though. Made it to the office in a little over an hour. Watching the sun break through now, and looking forward to a nice ride home. Having a locker room and showers at the office does not suck.:D

Mine is a 10+ miles round-trip commute, which is a major detour of the most direct (7.x miles) route due to freeways. But then even with the detour, there are fast sections on 50mph roads that have short car freeway entrance/exit ramps, making things a little hairy for my taste.
That's the main reason why I haven't bike to work since moving to a new office building; but I do plan to bike to work tomorrow. :)

I commute on my bike every day. I tried to get others in my office to ride this week, but no luck. I guess they can't drink a Starbucks, put makeup on and talk on the cell while riding in...

Ahhh....cheer up. :o You'll be back on your bike and putting in more miles for me to have to catch up with on Bike Journal in no time. :D
I rode yesterday. Had every intention of riding today. But then my alarm clock -- damn you alarm clock! -- didn't wake me until 30 minutes before my work-day is scheduled to start. I managed to shower, get ready, and get to work by about 8 minutes after the hour.
I'll be riding tomorrow, for sure.

Ok, so i was able to ride to work. I can't ride home though... The storage room where my bike is kept is locked and nobody has a key. The lady that usually has the key is on vacation, and the other person who has the key leaves at 2:00PM... Looks like i'm hitching a ride home with my girlfriend... This also means i won't be riding to work tomorrow either since my bike will be spending the night here at work. :(
I'm going to try and acquire a key or make sure i get my bike out before 2:00PM next time (if she's on vacation still).
I'll make it up next week and ride to work monday and tuesday (the days i usually drive). :)

I've finally rode to work today, yeah! A whopping 5.9 miles one way. Very exhausting. :p
The ceramic cups they're handing out looks pretty nice. It matches my other coffee cup.
I don't think I should cycle to work when in slacks, dress shoes, dress shirt, and tie.

On my way to work today, I saw a guy with a suite on the upper body, and I think cycling shorts on the lower part. He also has a backpack that seems pretty full.
But if it's me, I wouldn't bother and just drive. Too much hassles cooling down, getting dry, changing, etc.

Rode to work today with 3 of my co-workers. We had a blast. Truth be told I drove to work really early and then rode all the way to the meeting spot and we all rode in together. I have to be outta here by 11:30 today to get this train moving to Encinitas :)

Bonus, I get to have friday evening off. Con, I don't get the super cool air midnight ride home.
Oh yeah, and I rode every day this week. :D

Here the recap of the commute: The trip was interesting. It actually took only 1:10 to go uphill and then 55 minutes on the way down for a total of about 26 miles. The uphill part was super hard. Especially once I passed El Camino Real - the climb after that is super steep and long! It was drizzling a bit, but not enough to get me wet. On the way down I did that same hill but this time I was going like 30+mph as I was crossing El Camino. Kind of intimidating! When I merged into the 101 close to home, this guy pulls up to me on a sweet TREK road bike and begins commenting on my Electra. He's like, dude, that bikes's awesome! It's like so Old School... And I bet it rides amazing too. I want one of those! - That was
