Hi,

My primary computer died on Wednesday so I'm late to this thread (like that's different from any other thread).

Anyway, I was an aerospace engineer (20+ years) with a BIG aerospace company. Now I'm a Lean Consultant with the same company. Five points to the first one who can correctly identify the what a Lean Consultant does. :D

Lean Consultant in aerospace? Do you decide how many people to throw off a plane so that there's enough fuel to reach the destination? :D

I was once waiting on a plane at the airport where the source/destination locations are in some sort of snow storm. The plane kept getting delayed for an hour at a time, and when it was finally ready for boarding, they announced that they'll need to take ~20 people off the plane in order to conserve fuel. Since I've always been scared of flying, I'm one of the first to volunteer since I don't like how 20 ppl can have an effect. :p

You consult on how to eliminate waste, improve quality, lower cost, raise profit?

You work at Northrop?

Do you sit in the train? Design them? Or just go around hollering "Choo Choo?" :p Sorry, I have no idea what a locomotive engineer does...????

Ex-six day rider. Ex-track racing coach. Now doing something less important, so I won't bother mentioning it.

Rarely wear a helmet, as I spent my youth racing and training without one, and me and everyone I knew survived. The same cannot be said for the half dozen dead bike racers I've known since the helmet rule came into effect.

Not that I'm trying to start a helmet debate or anything. :p

Does that have to do with Lean Concepts?

You worked for Boeing, didn't you?

Well, bhp gets 5 points for the best description. Unfortunately, the wrong company.

1955 gets 5 points for being eerily close. Lean Enterprise, Boeing, Quality (Quality Assurance is a different department :) ).

QA is usually a bunch of hourly inspectors. Salaried engineers are usually QE.

On a side note, the Boeing X-32 demonstrator is the ugliest plane I've ever seen.

I have been a mainframe programmer for the past 30 years. I was fortunate to have started with plug boards (e.g. 407) and all the way up. Their aren't many industries when one's career can span such a wide variety of innovations. For that I consider myself lucky.

The last 12 years I have been working from home developing database software.

Helmets cause people to take risks they would normally not take when racing because of the helmet.

Dunno about that, m'self. I'm pretty sure my riding habits are the same with a helmet and without. I just object to being called names because sometimes I ride without a helmet, just like I did back before helmets were available. Was everybody who rode prior to 1985 a "dumbass"?

I was a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist, but I got burn out and needed some facetime time with people whom I didn't have to bribe with Cheerios.

So, now I teach 5 Spinning classes a week, buy music, spend way too much time mixing music, avoid studying for my personal trainer cert, and take naked pictures of myself :)

You have to admit it's a lot more fun.

You know, it's funny. When I was in High School (in the mid 60's, I'm old) we used to think that only students couldn't wait for the end of the school year while teachers wanted us to stay at school forever, grrr. Have a nice summer vacation!:)

Yeah. A student once asked a colleague of mine (my hero): "Will you miss us this summer?", to which he replied "Probably. I'm not as good a shot as I used to be!" She took it rather well as I recall.

How awesome is that...!?! I'd love to play for a living. The double bass is such a nice instrument too.

I played the cello for about 8 years while I was in school. I don't have one at the moment, but I would give anything to get another and continue my playing.

Don't hesitate. You can buy a student quality cello for very little thanks to our friends in China. Go to a site like musiciansfriend.com and check them out.

What do you think of the carbon fiber cello's out there? It's not sitka spruce, but come on, it is Carbon Fiber after all.:D

I have no idea, I just saw something on building one.

Also a musician.(PIANO-KEYS-VOCALS-PERCUSSION-PRODUCTION) ( I'm at Howl at the Moon (Universal Citywalk) Tues - Sat almost always. I also do lots of session work for TV and individual clients. Occasional Tour dates. Will be with Berlin in NYC in June for a couple of shows.
Y'all should stop in at Howl and say hi sometime! It's a fun place.

They're not cheap. A Chinese plywood/wood cello can be bought for a few hundred, but I think the CF instruments are in the thousands. I just saw an ad in the union paper with YoYo Ma endorsing one.

I was in no way assuming that they were cheap, but I was wondering what the "average working stiff" thought of them.
