Just wondering, what is the most common stem length. I know stem length is only one of several critical variables in proper bike fit but I was wondering if one length is the most common esp. on fixed gear bikes.
You could set this thread up as a poll. I bet you'd get a bell curve peaking around 10 cm, along with a lot of juvenile innuendo.

With drops 110 or 120 Jaguar, when running bullhorns I run a 95.
i have 110 with a 40 degree rise on one bike and 10 cm with no rise on the other
Good point, because the rise affects the real distance to the bars.

100mm for drops or risers and 70-80mm for bullhorns.

120 on a compact frame (Pedalsoft)
110 on a standard road geometry (Pedalsoft)
120 on compact mountain (Specialized OEM)
All are between 0 and - 14 deg rise.

I was wondering how long it would take...
Anyway, 10cm, no rise on one bike, 12cm, no rise on the other bike. 10cm is on the bike I use bullhorns on, 12cm is on my other bike which gots risers, hence the slight difference.
Edit: and if it matters, the 10cm one is Ritchey WCS and the 12cm is Cinelli.
120mm and bullhorns...

130 on one, 120 on another, and 110 on a third. Whichever puts me in the proper place.
100mm Nitto UI5GX stem with Nitto RB021 42cm bullhorns
The bullhorns are one 90% of the time for normal riding but on special days or days at the track....
110mm Nitto UI5GX stem with Nitto CroMo B123 42cm track drops (great bars!)
(110mm Ritchey WCS 4axis on Ritchey WCS Aluminum Logic drops, 42cm, on the roadie)

It's not so much the length as the girth...

Dingdingding, we have a winner. This is kind of like asking how much seatpost you have showing. Completely irrelevant and just as much potential for funny, er, offensive comments.

a helpful chart:
http://www.habcycles.com/stemfit.jpg
taken from http://www.habcycles.com/fitting.html
depending on the frame
on my two bikes that fit me right
100mm for drops 90mm for bullhorns both thomson-10 degrees
120mm on my little bater that is actually quite small -15degrees
90mm 15° rise Salsa on Nitto bullhorns. Thinking of going 0° rise though, I feel like I want to be just a little lower and I don't like having a giant stack of spacers on top waiting to crush my genitals.
MTB is 120mm, 10 degree rise w/ riser bars
Roadie is 100mm, 10 degree rise w/ cyclocross drops
you should ask my girlfriend

adjustable.
think i've got things pretty dialled in at about 80mm with bullhorns.
used to be 100mm with cut down bullhorns, and that was a bit too squashed.

Okay, here's why I asked the question. In January I had a 50cm frame built up and I had a 110mm Nitto stem I purchased for the build. Without looking at me the bike teck told me the stem would be way too long for me. I went ahead and purchased an 80mm stem that I really like. Now I have the Nitto laying around and I was thinking of using on my fixie. I just wondered if the guy thought I was using the wrong size frame or something. Something like, if you're using a stem over 100mm your frame/top tube is too short. Follow me?
