Northeast - 2007 Lancaster Covered Bridge Metric...who's going?

Were you thinking that guy was me? I wish I could have made it this year but I was with the family at the shore. You guys wouldn't have recognized me with the extra 20lbs. I'm packing anyway. A new baby this year, more time working, and less free time yields a whole lot less riding this year.

I'm still pretty fast on the flats but I'm a hill slug when the road turns upward. I've really got to lose the weight and get back to my last years weight and speed.

Too bad you couldn't make it, but congratulations on the new baby! For that, we'll give you a pass this year ;)

The John who was "chasing" us was Grasschopper. He missed our mass start, saying he'd catch up with us. I saw him "catch up", stop and chat with JugglerDave a few minutes, then sprint on up the road. I had a feeling he thought he was chasing us when, in reality, we were behind him the whole time. I really did call up to him, really I did - honest. He got a great warmup :D

Anytime you need to feel better D- just let me know and we'll hook up for a ride on the Maryland hills. We're not that far apart and I've ridden up around the Liberty many times. Last week at the shore made me feel 1% better about the lack of riding and fitness when I cracked 20mph average on four out of four 20-25 miles rides. Of course it doesn't hurt when the road is as flat as a billiard table!

Is anyone doing the Wicomico Heritage ride on Saturday Sept. 8th or the Seagull Century on Saturday, Oct. 6th? They are both on the eastern shore of Maryland in Salisbury and are about as flat as can be. I'm wussing out this year and settling for the two metric century options and hoping for better weather than the last two Seagulls.

Yea especially mornings like today, when I am dog tired (both kids are sick and kept us up last night) I have to remember this is a phase of life and embrace it. The kids are young and cute for a fleeting moment. It's just when I start feeling selfish that I get frustrated that I can't feed my cycling addiction as much as I want to.

And the extra 20lbs does suck too :D

After the last 2 years I think I am done with the Seagull this year. Of course this year will be perfect weather I bet. The only organized rides left on my calendar is the Civil war (quarter century with my wife on the tandem). I have a buddy who talked me into riding with him around some 70 mile loop he does that circumnavigates Old Rag.

Ya know what they say about the camera adding twenty pounds. Some of the photos taken of me have just been downright depressing - but the ride...and the company, was a joy!

Better late than never. I just got around to checking the photos from the ride and found this one of our group pulling up along side some Amish Ladies and then a buggy that I thought were pretty cool. BH

lol... glad to see you're still in good spirits! :) Stay off the wrist though for sure... wrist therapy is not fun. Get on the bike when it's good and healed.

Well after 3 weeks it still hurt so the doc had me get an MRI - it shows a fracture of the Scaphoid (navicular) bone in my wrist. I've got an ugly cast for the next 6 weeks... Looks like my bike season might be over. My thumb is isolated so I can't really grab the bars or squeeze the brake lever. Maybe I'll see if I can swap the brake cables so the front brake is on the right side and I'll try riding that way.

For what it's worth, I was going a 65 mile ride about a week ago and one of the guys who passed me had a cast on his hand just like yours. If he can do it, you can too. After all, you've got two brakes, time to use one more than it's ever been used before. :)

Impressive piece of plaster you're sporting there . . . and I think you could absolutely ride with that.
As long as you can hang onto the hoods, it'll be great :D Just don't get too sweaty, cuz you're stuck with that thing for awhile.

Oh man! Sorry to see this.... Luckily you're not immobilized at the elbow though. What you could do in addition to swapping the right brake to control the front, is to rig up your bars with a bar end shifter on the right side to control the FD, then just rest your left hand on the handlebar and do some flat riding. Hills would be tough, and descents down right dangerous though.
