Depends. If you get the road bike, you'll probably blow me and my knobby-clad MTB away. You've been pushing The Beast for long enough that you're gonna be scary fast on a lighter bike.
If we are riding together, I have no intention of dropping you. You have been warned.

Rolling at 8:30 sounds like a good plan to me. That should make the meeting time around 7:45 - 8:00. Let's not forget we have to take the mandatory pre-ride group photo.
I'm pretty sure the folks I'm coming with are planning on the Saturday social ride as well. If you all want to get lost, just put me in charge of the directions :D. I did a good job of getting us (Cycle17, Little Darwin, Cydewaze, Juf2m, and myself) off track last year on the Saturday social. And I pre-rode the route in my car before we did it. Darn roads always look different when your average speed is 35mph

Jess and I are out for this. Neither of us has been riding, and I have knee problems. We still want to host a DC area ride from our house, but it'll depend on how we feel. I'm doing short, flat, slow rides to try to reanimate my legs, but it's slow going.

Ok gang Aug 19th is the date...who is going this year? Looking forward to see all of the usual suspects.

Ride start update...the plan is to meet between the registration tents and the trail to the portapotties between 7:35 and 8:00 and then wheels down between 8:00 and 8:15.
Edited the start time.
I just noticed the OP update and the start time/place.

Thanks Beth. It's just really bad timing. We both have like 200-300 miles total for this year between all the moving, house work, and vacation (compared to around 2000 for this time last year). On top of that, Jess's mom is visiting the week before the ride, and is headed home the evening before the ride. Then I strain my knee trying to get some hard miles in before my legs are ready for it.
Next year will be a better year, I promise.

Odds Bodkins but I was looking forward to meeting the two of you this year. I hope your knee heals and that you get out to enjoy the rest of the summer.

Hey, Mirona's bringing his Mom - you should just bring Jess's Mom along too :)
Here's a thought . . . come up for the Three Creeks Century in September. Lots of food, fairly flat (easier on that knee), and a little extra time to get more miles in. Also, all loops leave from and return to the same place (where all the food is), so someone looking to do a shorter ride has a place to hang out (and eat) while others do the longer routes.
You'll be missed!!

bummer - I haven't seen psuaero chime in, so if it makes a difference, you (and your knee) would probably have an easier time of it this year

Sorry you two can't be with us this year. We will miss the both of you. Take good care of the knee problem, and keep us posted on that DC ride.

C-17,
You staying at the Q - Inn again this year? I'm pretty sure that's where my group is booked at. The ride, and dinner was great last year, so I hope my little group will go along with it. I'm pretty sure I can convince them. Sounds like we may have a rather large group for a Saturday social this time out. I think I'll start a new thread for it, and see if we can get a roll-call going to give us an idea.
Looking forward to seeing everybody again,

Beth
Dinner was nice - food is good - we can probably do it again this year (if our table manners didn't turn everyone off too much ... i promise to keep the cash dry this year). We're staying in Philly Sat night where we can park the SpongeLads for the day ... an 830 roll out and an early Sunday dinner sounds great. We have to collect the little sponges before we can head south, and the drive home Sunday night southbound on I-95 is, well, nothing but joy, as I'm sure anyone who has experienced beach traffic can imagine. So the earlier on everything the better ...

It is just that not many people expect a 46 year old, 6'1" 200+lb black guy who looks like a mean looking Forrest Whitaker to be into that sort of thing. I just skimmed over your blog and found it quite interesting. I think I am going to enjoy riding with you. And I thank you for the very gracious offer to put me up for the night. I have wanted to do this ride since I joined these forumes back in '05. I now have that opprotunity thanks to you.

Few people expect a fat, middle aged Caucasian with scoliosis to teach himself to ride a bike as an adult. So being surprising is something we have in common. PM me and Neil Fein and we can work out arrangements.
