Bikeforums.net is a forum about nothing but bikes. Our community can help you find information about hard-to-find and localized information like bicycle tours, specialties like where in your area to have your recumbent bike serviced, or what are the best bicycle tires and seats for the activities you use your bike for.

my wife is now a certified spin instructor and is teaching at our local gym. I've been helping her put together CDs for the last few months, but I need some inspiration. What are some good, non-offensive, upbeat songs, both old and new, that I can incorporate into the mix?
Many thanks in advance!!

That's pretty broad. Maybe offer some examples of songs she's already used in her class...?

each class we put together an hour mix of a pretty wide variety of things. I'm at work so I'm going off memory here, but last weeks mix had-
new order - 60mph
the doves - catch the sun
the go team - the power is on
juicy - better than ezra
james brown - sex machine
dropline - the best thing
the klf - 3am eternal
res - they say vision
starsailor - 4 to the floor
that's all i can think of right now. i try to change it up and do some rock mixed with non-rock, some old stuff with some new, some familiar with some unknown, etc. I guess I'm looking for any good music, of any style, that can motivate people a little.
thanks again

the klf - 3am eternalWow! I haven't heard that song in AGES!! Okay, I'll try to come up with some suggestions when I have less work on my desk.

Wow! I haven't heard that song in AGES!!
That's what I figured the reaction would be, it actually went over really well.

Okay, here's some that I just pulled from my limited iTunes playlist at work:
Outkast - Bombs Over Baghdad (B.O.B.)
Spoon - I Turn My Camera On
Al Green - Sha La La
Stevie Wonder - Superstition, I Wish
Weezer - Dope Nose
Antibalas - Che Che Cole
Ben Harper - Steal My Kisses
Bob Marley - Could You Be Loved
Flaming Lips - Do You Realize??
Gnarls Barkley - Crazy
Jet - Are You Gonna Be My Girl
Muse - Supermassive Black Hole
Quantic Soul Orchestra - Pushin' On
Common - Go (maybe the clean version, if you prefer non-offensive)
Wilco - Heavy Metal Drummer
and of course...
Queen - Bicycle Race
I didn't include a lot of the hip-hop I thought might be good, because I think this list is generally a bit more accessible and more broadly appealing than a lot of them.
I can post more once I get home, but let me know if any of these doesn't quite fit what you're looking for. :)

cool list... I actually used spoon last week. I totally forgot about marley (I know, a bit of an oversight) and ben harper. I'll have to work some of these in next week. I try to keep the hip hop to a minimum, and make it mostly the mainstream, clean flavor, just because of the demographic of who comes to the classes. I'm open to any other ideas you've got.
thanks again....
